What are channel 4 playing at!?

Firstly there is a very well english dubbed version of kung fu hustle, however they decide to put english subtitles in a huge black space under the video..

One my favorite films, not going to enjoy it now :(

Why can't they show the dubbed version?

Dubs are horrid. I love Channel 4 because whenever they show a foreign film they show it with the original audio. It shows that 4 actually have respect for the source material, rather than other broadcasters who show dubs.

There is people who like dubs and there are dubs that arnt awful, but they are for the most part. Also if its one of your favourite films then why would it ruin it for you and why wouldnt you have seen it undubbed in the past.

I have seen it before in cantonese and enjoyed it just as much. The english version, like i said is dubbed very well and its very funny, was looking forward to the great voices.

the black space with huge subtitles however is annoying, it is like the aspect on my tv is wrong.

it would of been much better to of placed the subtitles on top of the video so you still have the video full widescreen.

Channel 4 should have had interactive subtitles like the ones used for hard of hearing so they could be turned off. Like DVD's and blu-rays have digital technology would have allowed both the original soundtrack and the english dub to have been broadcast. Channel 4 give your audience a choice.

Ive just checked my dvd and the film isnt in full widescreen, its in 2.40:1 so theres always going to be black space.

Ive not seen 4's broadcast, but I think I know what you mean from other films ive seen them show: The film gets pushed to the top leaving big space for the subtitles at the bottom. Its weird but I dont find it distracting.

See that cinema ratio looks in proportion, C4 had essentially pushed the video to the top of the screen

this is how it looked - http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/7908/kungfuhustle.png

the subtitles filled the black space most the time, lettering was huge.

I think this looks a hell of a lot better..
I know this is not in widescreen but its just an example.. http://i.ytimg.com/vi/xcuO-s147v4/hqdefault.jpg

I agree: C4's presentation was likely the best possible.
