A fast food chain sponsering a tv show about losing weight...what a good message to be sending out.

TBH I would rather see them do it than a slimming food/suppliments company.

I thought it was a fast food chain.
I just thought it was a bit ironic

Subway are heavily involved in the US version as well. They promote healthy alternatives within the show (obviously with tighter product placement rules I doubt we'll see that here) but it seems to work.

And as another poster said, healthy living is not about the slimming supplements. It's about balance and Subway know what they're doing - it's not like they're portraying a greasy deep-fried Mars bar in a sub.

    It made me chuckle, too.

It's true that a fully-loaded Subway sandwich has more fat than a Big Mac, but there are lots of healthy options too. You can find the "healthy heart" logo on Subway menus, so if you choose only those items you can't go too far wrong.

As with anything else, moderation is the key. You can easily eat Subway (or KFC or McDs) and suffer no ill effects, provided you do it as part of a balanced diet with exercise.

There was a big Subway ad campaign in the US featuring a guy by the name of Jared Fogle who allegedly lost 245 pounds while eating only Subway sandwiches, so it's not a surprise to find them involved in something like The Biggest Loser.

There's "fast food" and there's "fast food". KFC is a fast food company, but so is Prét-à-Manger.

Thanks, I thought I'd missed it, Davina will be a plus point, I'm not all that keen on Kate G...:)

anyone dieting, try the protein diet

3 protein shakes per day and 1 meal at night steak and green beans and drink green tea and water only

been doing it 3 days and my body is feeling firmer already, my mrs friend did it for 5 weeks and lost 1 stone,

Not good if you have a lot of weight to lose as you would be bored silly in a few months. Doesn't sound like it teaches new habits either.

"Hey contestant B, are you hungry today and thinking about food?"
"Yeah I don't know what to do, Contestant A!"
"Well conetestant B, I have this ORBIT COMPLETE GUM on me randomly even though we live on a ranch with heavily restricted diet chosen for us by specialists, it stops cravings and only has 5 calories"

    So natural.

Sounds terrible, 3 days first of all is not enough to make a difference. Secondly you're starving yourself by eating a single meal hence the huge unhealthy deficit. You will not be healthy and won't maintain the weight. Protein promotes muscle growth which should = put on weight (lean muscle mass). However since the rest of your diet stinks you'll still be losing muscle. Enjoy being weak and tired.

Not enough veg and fibre. You'll end up seriously constipated.

Sounds great..... apart from the dehydration, mood swings, foul breath and constipation.

Subway's products are pretty horrible - I've tried it twice, and regretted it both times.

His weight loss was less to do with a diet of Subway sandwiches and more to do with the personal trainers and dieticians he was supplied with.

You just need to give these people aides and then they'll lose weight fast. Jared has aides! ;)

It's well know that when you start to diet, the first few days you lose fluid, which makes you think you've lost weight, but you haven't really. It's the body's way of adjusting.

i think people really need to look up this diet and what protein actually does to the body.

I might add i'm not big, thin with a bit of a gut, hence why i feel more toned.

So should you really be recommending the same diet to over weight people - possibly very over weight people who may need to be on a diet for months/years ?

the diet is not forever 5 weeks max then you introduce more food, veg, wholegrain past for the carbs etc.

my mrs friend who was 16 stone is now 15 stone and shes in her 40's

Alot of people dont actually realize the foods they eat.

they see grapes and think thats healthy..grapes are fully of carbs and if you dont burn them off it turn to fat.

protein not only adds lean muscles but also burns more carbs than you'd think.

In 2007 I lost 6 stone, over a year, no daft diets or operations, or mad working out sessions, just ate less (actually learnt a lot about portion size and calories) walked every day, tried to fit in a swim twice a week, the weights gone, I've changed my eating habits forever and got a dog...bargain!

Well done that's incredibly encouraging for those of us adopting a more sensible attitude to food in the hope of getting the weight off !

It's not as simple as that, natural sugar is handled a lot differently to refined sugar i.e. sweets. As long as you aren't eating insane amounts they will not affect you the way refined shitey sugar does. When it comes down to it, losing weight is all calories in/calories out - all you need is a deficit. WHAT you actaully eat dictates how healthy you'll be as well as what gets burned by the body. Grapes are healthy and don't make you fat...

Protein loading is worse than eating grapes.
