360 games for an 8 yr old

Self explanatory really.

Looking to get a 360 & Kinect for the family for Christmas, but a perusal in Game, etc. isn't finding me many games for the boy other than the Lego ones which we already have on PS3.

Any suggestions gratefully accepted - they don't need to be new ones.

Thanks

There's a ton of games out there suitable for the kids. Mortal Kombat, Left 4 Dead, Dead Rising, GTA IV. All incredibly family friendly. :D

    ...

Yeah, but seriously, are you just looking for ANY decent game with a rating less than 12? Rayman Origins could be an excellent choice.

Pretty much. I do know somebody that bought the hardened MW3 for their 8 year olds birthday .....

Was looking at the cracking deal that Amazon are running with Forza, 12 months gold and a listed game for a tenner - so that's me sorted, but I'm under orders that its his console as well. No games for the boy, no console for lloyd ....

Mini Ninjas is a fun little game and very family friendly. When you "kill" an enemy it just turns into a fluffy animal.

Yep another vote for Mini Ninjas, a very fun game that all ages can enjoy, that's a great recommendation so definitely pick that up if you see it. If not I think it's on Games on Demand for £15. Kids should love it.

Not quite sure why the latest released games are being recommended when there is a huge back library of suitable games for such little money. I would think Rayman Origins would be a little bit too hard for an 8 year old tbh, Sonic Generations would probably be more appropriate. As for Kinect that new Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster game is said to be excellent.

Kameo is a another great game well worth picking up if you see it, but I think Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts is probably the best one to go for, from my experience it's a game ideally suited to kids imagination, my friend's kid had a great time with that game. It allows you to build your own vehicles from parts in a similar way to Lego in order to take on each challenge in the best way, it's really clever and you have to engage your brain/imagination a little more than your average platformer.

Kinect sports season 1 and 2 will be great fun over Xmas.

You can also get Kinect Adventures which is pretty good for about £3 from cex second hand.

I find the majority of xbox games sold in the shops etc are geared towards men. Fighting, shooting etc etc. Most of the games I like and my kids like are on the marketplace for arcade games. You can get peggle, plants v zombies, bejeweled etc. You just need to buy xbox points to buy them which you can get online or in shops. The games are downloaded to the console then.

Hey... Women like the fighting and shooting games too, you know.

Another vote from me for Mini Ninjas - simply adorable.

Also Viva Pinata might be worth a look.

Are you kidding?!? An extremely violent, certificate 18, war based video game, for an 8yr old?!?

I jest not. They also bought him BLOPS when he was 7 .....

Not my place to tell somebody else how to parent, but my 15 and over games only come out and night when the boy's gone to bed.

One of my relatives buys them for their 8 year old as well, but that's ok because they only play online with their friends .....

I was bought Robocop 2 when I was 8 or 9 and i'm pretty much desensitised to violence or anything that should scare me.

Needless to say, my son is not playing anything he isn't old enough to.

Viva Pinata and anything with lego infront tend to be good for kids and quite a few have been stated above for the kinect.

also the early sonic games can be bought through the console too.

You should sugest they buy them some hardcore porn to play on it too, as sex is much worse than violence ;-)

If you are on about GTA, I don't see why you have a problem with that. I am exactly the same about only buying it to go online, and the Online is probably the least dodgy bit about it.

I was talking about COD rather than GTA but the same principle applies.

The issue I (and others) have is that it's got an age rating of 18 for a reason and an 8 year old shouldn't be playing it whether that's in campaign mode or online.

The only over age games I let the boy play are 12 rated ones and then only after I've had a run through - Force Unleashed for example hasn't got anything in it that he's not seen in the movies ....

The only issue I have with kids playing online, is that they are generally better than me, and kick my ass!!

    As an update then:-

Santa is bringing a 250gb with Kinect, Forza 4, Kinect Adventures and Sims Pets and 12 months Gold.

All for a very reasonable (or so I thought) £284 from Amazon

Thanks for the advice everybody !!!

I'm now torn between Uncharted 3 or Forza when I get some time in front of the telly over Christmas .....

Did you enjoy the previous uncharted games ? If so do not miss out Uc3. If never played them there is demo's on ps store.

If you love racing games you will love forza. With them being so different its hard to say what game you should get. All I could say is both games are top of there genre.

Oh yeah, long standing PS owner. Just been hanging fire on buying a 360. Relented in the end as the boy has been bugging us all year for a 360. UC3 is in Santa's sack already - hence the quandary :)

I would get Tintin. I got this included with my console and actually quite enjoy playing it. It also works with Kinect.
