So Alfie hold the world record of apps in one year 176 out of 200 in 2003. Now that really is over using a character.

    =19. Arthur Fowler (885 episodes)
    =19. Patrick Trueman (885 episodes)
    21. Michelle Fowler (883 episodes)

Just a slight amendment to the Top 20 - Patrick has now overtaken Michelle, just (also, Arthur is on 885, not 884 - I realised earlier in the year there was an error on my spreadsheet).

Alfie, Max and Carol all stand a good chance of breaking into the Top 20 this year, depending on their total counts for 2014...

Lynne topped the count in 2001 in the same way that Abi managed to this year, peripheral to a lot of story lines, especially since she was working in the cafe at the time. Little Mo lived away from the Square at the beginning and Kat just wasn't as constant a presence (Little Mo appeared in 115 and Kat appeared in 113 during 2001)

I'd be willing to place a bet on the Top 10 (in no specific order) being

    Johnny Carter,
    Mick Carter,
    Linda Carter,
    Phil, Mitchell,
    Ian Beale,
    Max Branning,
    Stacey Branning,
    Kat Moon,
    Bianca Butcher,
    Lauren Branning

I think Linda will Top the list.

Personally I can see Tina Carter really high in the episodes rankings as she will be like Abi. No really storylines but behind the bar serving and part of the carters in their big storylines. Can see her higher than Mick.
Stacey's not back to March and she may have to take a break at some time because Our Girl has been recomisioned for a series.

It's a given that a Carter will top the list I think. Perhaps Johnny as I think he might get involved with some things/people outside of the Vic given his age.

An All Time one would be VERY long...

The Top 20 All Time (which is a combination of mine and dullagj2's work) is posted above, although not complete as missing some episodes from the early 90s...

Cheers Berty. :) Great to see Patrick in the all-time top 20. I definitely think Alfie and Max will enter it this year.

Thanks, she wasn't on the cast list but it isn't always 100% accurate. I'll amend it in tomorrow's update. :)

Poppy has already appeared in one episode.

Look at all the Carters at the top :O makes a change from the Branning's!

I predict that one of the Carters will rank high, same with Phil, Ian and Sharon. Probably Denise and maybe even Carol too.

I can see Stacey making the Top 5/10, depending on how long her Our Girl break is. There's no way DTC is going to leave Stacey out of very many episodes.

I think Ms Snout could well have topped 2014 had she not disappeared with MySistaaaa on NYD. Depending on when she's back, she'll probably be up there.

A top 10 of Stacey/Ronnie/Mick/Linda/Johnny/Tina/Ian/Sharon/Carol/Bianca I think (in any order).

Top 10 for 2014 predictions (in no particular order)

    1. Mick Carter
    2. Carol Jackson
    3. Kat Moon
    4. Ronnie Mitchell
    5. David Wicks
    6. Linda Carter
    7. Bianca Butcher
    8. Ian Beale
    9. Phil Mitchell
    10. Denise Fox

This is hard! I think Stacey's in with a good shout too, but the characters I mentioned above all feel like they're involved in big storylines early on in the year, so I'm taking a punt that they start strong and that carries them through the rest of the year. It might be a case of what happened with Abi last year though and a few characters make little appearances, rather than full blown storylines, and that puts them on top.

I think in no order but I defo think a Carter will win

    Mick Carter
    Shirley Carter
    Linda Carter
    Carol Jackson
    Kat Moon
    Bianca Jackson
    Ian Beale
    Denise Fox
    David Wicks
    Sharon Rickman

I think when they return Ronnie and Stacey will also be high.

I think all Carter's will rank high apart from Nancy (don't ask I just think she won't), most notably Tina, who I think probably won't have a proper big storyline but being behind the bar at the Vic and involved in other storylines will work in her favour.

    In no particular order:

    Mick Carter
    Shirley Carter
    Linda Carter
    Johnny Carter
    Tina Carter
    Ian Beale
    Sharon Rickman
    Carol Jackson
    Stacey Slater
    David Wicks

Bianca and Kat will closely follow the top 10 I think. Ronnie will just miss out I think.

I agree, I think Tina will score highly. All the Carters will. Unfortunately, I think Kat and Alfie will score highly too.

Hopefully they use the likes of Billy and Patrick more this year and give them storylines.

    Hope Sharon's used more too!

Interesting, if a new Carter tops the list does that mean that's the first time someone will have appeared in more episodes than any other character in their first year? Obviously excluding 1985.

Well you could include Derek Branning from 2012, despite appearing in 1996 briefly. Or Alfie in 2003 and Lynne Slater in 2001.
