Why was it not in their manifesto? Or did I miss it?

Because the Tories are just making it up as they go along now.

Such is the low quality of their election campaign.

This is completely irresponsible if true - we have an £80bn budget deficit and are trillions in debt.

Logically this means more and more cuts to key fron line services.

    No money back, no guarantee.

If he later brings any of these rises in then he gets accused of being a liar, but if Miliband brings them in, will it be seen as acceptable as he didn't make a promise that they wouldn't.

Which is better? There's only one way to find out.....

If he brings in legislation cash to every man, woman and child in the UK, or whatever else, Labour will say anything to try and trump it.

Why does this need to be in law? Even if the Tories passed such a law they, or someone else, could repeal it.

but it could be the vote winning policy as labour will be mystified how to respond

They could point out the Tories could repeal it - or why is Dave so lacking in confidence about his party that he has to pass a law that will stop them increasing tax

Nope, some more desperate panicking from the Tories.

Don't respond at all would be my advice. I don't think it is going to make much difference at this point. Maybe garner a few floaters but that's it.

It does look desperate........why pass a law ?

If he's PM he could just not increase any taxes......

It's an admission that people don't believe what he says

Straight away everyone just slags it off! Every single policy or idea that the Tories have, even if it helps millions of people, is criticised as desperate, fake, a lie.

In contrast, if Labour say anything (especially from the mouth of the two Eds, it's "wonderful, what a great plan!" Let's wait and see what Cameron says about it first shall we?

They don't believe it, as deep down, they know that Labour won't commit to such a pledge.

Policy like this would mean the death of most public services, they would just vanish and the pubilc would be told no money for these services.

Are we going to need a Chancellor for the next parliament then, or can we put Osborne on a zero-hours contract next term?

It is utter nonsense. He is always telling us we need trident because it is such a dangerous and uncertain world but he is certain that nothing will happen in the next five years that would need a tax rise to pay for it. He really is on another planet

It's a nonsense policy. If a government doesn't want to raise tax then it doesn't raise tax, it doesn't need a law to stop it raising tax.

Taxes would still be paid. Just increases annually. The benefits cap is being reduced from £26,00) per year to £23,000 per year. That has already been confirmed.

Breaking News - I've just learnt that Dave is going to pass a law that requires him to put his underpants on underneath his trousers.

This is true of any law.

The logical conclusion of such an argument is that parliament is pointless.

According to the Express its only for 5yrs . So guess if you want no tax rises for 5 yrs. guaranteed you have to vote Tory.

He is not saying no tax rises ever, just for the next five years. Why would that require a law? Either he is in power and can leave taxes alone or he is not and can do nothing. The "law" means nothing.
