What does the second half of last year's series of Doctor Who have to do with the 50th anniversary? I'm not typically reactionary and I didn't have the same expectations for the anniversary as some did but I don't really like having my intelligence insulted; don't try and kid me on that the second half of last year's series, stretched into this year for budgetary reasons, is part of the 'celebrations'. Maybe that's an over-reaction to a hype blurb but it just irritated me.

To be honest (and yes, I'm currently speaking from a position of ignorance, in lieu of any official information) the anniversary is gearing up to be total hype over substance: there will be masses of PR, functions, events, tributes, memorabilia (basically, shit the BBC can make money from) but very little in the way of actual new Doctor Who on the TV, and to be honest, that's all I'm really bothered about.

Can we watch these episodes and just get to 2014 already? It's shaping up to be a very annoying year Doctor Who wise. I don't want to have Doctor Who constantly pushed in my face if there's not actually any content to broadcast. The BBC make a lot of money from Doctor Who and yet they've chosen not to finance a series for the calender year 2013, whilst milking the cash cow by bringing out stamps, putting on extortionately priced conventions (not announced yet, but a dead cert) and anything else they can think of to SELL. But where is the investment in the actual PRODUCT?

I don't want a year of being patronized. There's no new series this year. Just say it. The anniversary is pure PR, helping to milk the BBC's cash cow more than ever before, and for ever diminishing product for those buying.

So you don't know what's happening. You talk about conventions that don't exist yet which you consider a 'dead cert' and you claim it is all PR fluff and commercialism at the expense of new content. And yet were you not the same person who also complained about the Gattiss drama being an exercise in self congratulation on the part of the BBC and questioned the motives for it? So while you decry all the hype around the anniversary and say you want more actual DW content you also have an issue with a specially commissioned drama written by a lifelong fan of the show that from what we have seen so far has been lovingly produced and has cast some brilliant acting talent all in tribute to Doctor Who. You also said this was another vanity product and yet when it was pointed out that the BBC have also made similar biopics about shows and actors that weren't even on the BBC you had nothing to say.

You also were unhappy about the possibility of Captain Jack returning. A much loved and massively significant character.

And based on one promo shot you also criticised the show for their design of the new Ice Warriors which you consider 'plastic' based on a tiny opaque teaser picture.

    Is your surname Murdoch perchance?

What has happened, has happened. Yes it's sad that we didn't get a full 13 episode run last year and this year and yes the BBC could have handled the announcements better in my opinion but I am sure the BBC have their reasons. It's time to look forward to the eight episodes that we have coming up and then the anniversary special to follow rather than looking back in anger (as some chap in Oasis once said).

I find it hard to imagine why a Doctor Who fan would be so grumpy about getting a glimpse of a the redesign of a classic series monster.......

That's because I thought the announcement would about the business side of the show.

Such as new Doctor Who game, new books, an announcement as to whether there are going to be even more merchandise considering the 50th Anniversary.

But the "idiots" as you called them had already said that the announcement would be about the show returning in March, so I'm not sure why you would expect the news to about any of those things...

    Idiots indeed
