Not that I'm particularly concerned about it but I was looking at ITV's schedule for next Saturday night and they had this as the synopsis for the X Factor which starts at 2000:
The X Factor[SUB HD]
Series 10. Episode 19/22: Part One
The remaining acts celebrate the best of the show with The X Factor's 10th birthday party, performing hit singles released by past contestants - and there's live music by former finalist Olly Murs. With the final now just three weeks away and the prize of a life-changing record deal coming a little closer, there's no time for complacency, and recent bottom-two results have shown that none of these budding pop stars is safe. Dermot O'Leary deals with the drama on the judging panel. The results are tomorrow at 8pmGeneral Music/Ballet/Dance/Challenge/Reality Show

Sad.
They must be destroyed.
Yes it's such an obvious attempt to hijack viewers from DW that it really isn't worthy of even them.
What's the world coming to?!
Oh shut up. I was just saying this is what they're doing, no need for that kind of response
Dr Who fans are generally cultured and intelligent people - so hardly likely to watch X-Factor.
Each to their own: it takes all sorts to make a universe (as Tom once said...).
Please don't tell me to shut up!!!
Saying "it really isn't worthy of even them" goes quite a way beyond simply saying what they're doing.
It really annoys me when I read this sort of comment. Ting used to make the same observations when he was on here and I used to point out, you can't tie people and who they are to what sort of TV show they watch.
I like Doctor Who, I like X-factor as well(though not as much this Series) That does not make me a clever clogs for for watching Doctor Who or a moron for watching X-factor. I enjoy watching thought provoking documentaries as well as reality shows and fantasy shows such as Doctor Who and old 80's shows like Knight Rider and The A-Team.
You speak as if some people watch one or the other exclusively. Not true. People can watch all sorts of programs and shouldn't be labelled by what they watch.
As for ITV, I couldn't give two hoots what they are showing at the same time as Doctor Who. Just be thankful Doctor Who is on the BBC and not ITV anyway with their excessive advertising.
Yes you're right, I shouldn't have told you to shut up, so sorry, but I don't need your dose of sarcasm
If it was up against the Jungle thingy - hmmm could be more of a problem!
I reckon the Doctor will win this battle easily!
Well ITV just agreed to pay Simon Cowell Squillions of pounds for Three More Series of it so someone must still be watching it.
I watch Doctor Who and The X Factor. Infact, an even better example, I watch Big Brother but I'll also watch anything to do with science (such as the shows fronted by Professor Brian Cox). It's difficult to group people when watching television.
On the question of disrespecting X Factor viewers I think by and large the disrespect is justified. I once watched an entire series of X Factor and a more joyless and cynical programme it is impossible to imagine.
Unfortunately the spirit of non-judgmentalism is abroad but quite frankly I dont care if 'the cleverest man I know watches the Jeremy Kyle show'; the argument is not about the quality of the subject but of the object. Take heed.
I totally disagree the disrespect is justified. Just because you don't like X-Factor it doesn't mean u have the right to diss other people's liking for the show.
I don't like Songs of Praise, cookery programmes and the endless cop and hospital shows that dominate tv. I hate most of ITV 2'S output and most of the Moffat Era has been crap imo.
The one factor that links all those items together is that whatever I may feel about them, they all have fans who adore watching them. It's their choice and like most of us on here try to do, we should respect other people's choices and views. The X-Factor fans have a right to like the show in the same way we have a right to like Doctor Who.
Generally speaking, I agree with you.
People are perfectly entitled to watch whatever they like, and neither me nor anyone else has the right to denigrate a TV programme just because we don't like it.
X-Factor, however, is the one exception.
Yes well that is radical subjectivism for you which is the uniquely post-modern situation of both having an opinion and also not having an opinion if you think it is going to upset somebody else.
I think the confusion is really between the notion of respecting each person just on the basis of the fact that they are another person which is absolutely essential and the notion of respecting another person's opinions just on the basis that they are another person's opinions which makes no sense at all.
When it comes to the specific question of the sort of programmes people watch then I think an awful lot of material on telly at the moment is genuinely dehumanising and X Factor is probably on the borderline because it does have a tendency to treat people as objects. It also promotes a debased notion of human capability and aspiration.
Hardly an earth shattering attempt at competing with DW's 50th anniversary.
They'll be disappointed only if they hope for higher ratings. If they merely think Who will do better and it doesn't then they're more likely to be surprised.
Quite a lot of us have no emotional feelings about X Factor at all — either positive or negative.
In my old job, I had to visit people in their own homes. The big golden rule, which some people will know, is that you don't judge that person's home, what they wear or what they watch.
So if it's a bloke wearing a dress and make up watching Songs of Praise or listening to Radio 1 or The X-Factor, even if his house is a complete mess, you do not under any circumstances criticise that person for how he wishes to live, what his taste in music or tv and so on.
In short, you respect their dignity. You respect their choices.
So I stick to my point as you will most likely to stick to yours. I think the X-factor Fans should be not be made an exception of because they enjoy a show.
I have a friend who religiously watches ITV 2 and all those programmes about women who are full of botox who go shopping and The Only Way In Essex. I live in Essex and that show doesn't portray your typical Essex person. Far from it. For me it's the sort of programme I absolutely despise as you do with X-Factor. However, I don't ever castigate my friend for watching it.
I think it's very hard to gauge. On one hand we know that Doctor Who is a big time shifter and theres no reason to think it will change for this episode, however, this is a special one off episode that has been heavily promoted and hyped and may therefore trend more towards the xmas special ratings. Plus having a lead in of around 11 million with a ten minute head start aint going to harm its chances.
Exterminate them!
Dr Who on the other hand, is the finest television programme in the entire history of humanity.
