I bloody hated Captain Beaky back then-I'm certainly not looking forward to having it inflicted on me again.

How is he a brand new face when we've just seen him singing about pina coladas?

Ha yes - I thought they'd brought Rupert back for an encore for a second!! :D

    Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, go away Wright!

Indeed. I've never seen a good word written about him yet 35 years later he is still polluting the airwaves.

It always was cut before the last verse. Apparently no-one wanted to hear about contraception at 8pm on Thursdays.

Was he as obnoxious in 1980 as he is now? I would imagine so.

Do Jon or Vangelis appear in the video?

Does Jon get to sing before it's cut off?

As a kid, I always thought it was a woman singing this!

    thanks, will seek it out.

Some heavy editing tonight, I wonder if the late show will have full/proper version of some of those.

That Queen track to close is pure class. Beautiful song.

Well, that one wasn't as good as I'd hoped it would be! 6/10.

'How about getting yourself in shape' says the Kid.

Steve could do with that advice 35 years later ;-)
Nasty! (But the same thought occurred to me).

"Steve Wright In The Afternoon" was once inflicted on me whilst travelling in a van on a school trip. I've hated him ever since.

Not a great show tonight but i like the variety you get in these old shows. From the Specials singing about contraception to Rupert and his pina coladas.

Really? Didn't realise that. I doubt most of us watching back then would have had a clue what that line meant at the time though, I certainly didn't.

The only difference being a time lapse of thirty five years, the same now at 60 years old as he was at 25.

Lost track of time and just caught up on iPlayer. Not the best of shows tonight but the Rezillos did at least inject a bit of retro fun.

And John Foxx was awesome, great to hear Underpass again. I think he out-Numaned Numan in creating music which sounded even more robotic. He did, after all, previously write a song called I Want To Be a Machine.

Yes, its only about 2 minutes long anyway isn't it, and they still managed to cut it! Great atmospheric grainy old film though-seems like a million years ago.

Overall thought though is just how dead TOTP was-especially the links which have no background noise or sensation of event about them at all.
