BBC also has the rights to Dreamworks animated and live action films although some like Transformers were co-production with Paramount so ended up on Channel 4. Channel 5 is Sony although last year a lot of Sony films ended up on Channel 4 and BBC Two, Channel 4 I think has the Summit Entertainment films like Twilight and Channel 5 have shown Lionsgate films.

Sony, mostly. They pick up others where they can.

It'll be interesting to see who gets Angels and Demons this year as The Da Vinci Code rated very strongly for its premiere (3.7m in the overnights for Five) and every time it's repeated seems to do well. Even the showing on 5* on Friday, just a couple of weeks after it had aired on Channel 5, managed a very respectable and well above average 411k (2.3%).
I think Channel 5 have a Sony Pictures deal

Does anyone know how if this is the case regarding BBC and Disney movies, how did ITV show Toy Story, Toy Story 2 and Aladdin over the Christmas period along with the UK TV premiere of Tangled on Christmas Day?

Thanks for this. Channel 5 also had some of the older Pixar titles recently. It's hard to know which channel has what. Happy Feet turned up on BBC1 this Christmas so that makes me think they've got some old Warner Brothers titles.

Robin Hood did well for C4, thought that would be squeezed outcompletely but it wasn't far off ITV, and must have dented the comedy hour.

    Full lineup for Splash! confirmed:

Heat 1: Jake Canuso, Omid Djalili, Jade Ewan, Helen Lederer and Jenni Falconer.
Heat 2: Caprice, Joey Essex, Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards, Charlotte Jackson and Diarmuid Gavin.
Heat 3: Anthony Ogogo, Dom Joly, Jennifer Metcalfe, Tina Malone and Linda Barker.

Judges: Tom Daley, Andy Banks (Team GB coach), Leon Taylor (Olympic Silver Medalist) and Jo Brand.

It isn't a great celebrity lineup but it isn't as bad as I'd feared based on the rumours and the fact it was always going to be a difficult sell to celebrities as is can be quite a dangerous sport. Putting Jo Brand on the panel definitely suggests they're going for laughs and I think it might do OK overall. I suspect it'll start poorly on Saturday but pick up a bit across the run.

Who or what is a Jake Canuso.

Heat 3 is going to have a lot of Bellyflopping i'd say.

They didn't have an available Poirot or Marple to show like they often do.

Would be great to see a breakdown for Up. Presumably it was behind Em at the start but built substantially when Royal Babies came on - it could have been close to 8m for most of its time on air?

    5 minute peak: 1.99m (7.5%) at 7.45pm
    8.00pm: World's Strongest Man Final: 1.71m (6.1%)

9.00pm: 50 Shocking Facts about Diet and Exercise: 1.61m (6.8%)
    5 minute peak: 2.06m (10.7%) at 10.40pm

    (includes +1)

Two more BBC Two from last night:

    21:00 - Queen Victoria's Children: 2.29m (8.3%)
    22:00 - Charlie Brooker's 2012 Wipe: 1.29m (6.2%)

I should note that there is no tape-checking on yesterday's figures.

A crisis is when your soap gets beaten by a cartoon... ;)

Has that fate befallen EE yet?

Great for EE, a little bit disappointing for the comedies - a fair bit down on last week, particularly MBB. Suggests Lewis will make further in roads.

Superb for Up, well above expectations and easily top film of Christmas.

I don't think MBB has anything to worry about. 8m is still several million up on the last series, so great figures. Plus it has a track record if being one of the most watched shows on the Iplayer, and also when having recordings added, it's overall rating increases by several million.

Miranda is completely on fire at the moment, and she's definitely at her peak, between her book selling so well for Christmas and now her tv series.

Comedies getting 8-9m in prime time on BBC1 is rare in the modern era. These are the BBC's biggest comedy hits/ratings draws in a very long time.

I don't think Lewis will hurt anything next week, as I'd imagine it will draw a different audience than the one watching these two polarising comedies. If one show is to be recorded, Lewis might be that show, given the comedies are more of a must-see, talk-about-them-at-work-tomorrow thing.

I think the answer is no Robbie, but I'm sure someone else can verify that

anyway it was nice to see some films in primetime over Christmas period

If both ITV and BBC stopped treating them like the plague, we'd have better varied programming schedules during the rest of the year.

I think it's a shame that there seem to be so few movie ine primetime on FTA television, away from Channels 4 and 5

I dunno, BGT beats it very easily.

I type 'Has Eastenders...' into Google and the predictive text comes up with 'Has Eastenders been cancelled'

Good ratings last night, but the episode itself was very weak and has mainly been slated in the soaps forum; there was about 15 minutes of story material padded out to an hour. If they keep this up they'll be back at 7m soon enough.

    No surprise there.

Having said that, Gary Barlow & Friends got 3.5m including +1, which to be honest is better than I expected. Bet it would've got 4-5m away from the comedies.

    ITV1 ratings including +1:

    Emmerdale - 5.83m (22.5%) - 6.14m tapechecked
    Royal Babies - 3.15m (12.0%) - 3.19m tapechecked
    Who Wants To Be A Millionaire - 3.17m (11.4%) - 3.23m tapechecked
    Gary Barlow & Friends - 3.49m (13.1%) - 3.56m tapechecked

the episode was pretty nondescript, which is why it's great to prove the naysayers wrong that there was anything wrong with EE.

People still like the show and tune because they have some sort of attachment to the characters. As poorly rated as the Gary Barlow concert was, it was an alternative that people could watch if they so desired

Doctor Who with a 5.15pm start managed to end up higher than all but 3 shows on Christmas Day. Now that's impressive.

Every EE episode is slated in the soap forum no matter how good/bad it is.
