Sorry it's a Mail link, but they seem to be the only ones reporting on this. All other sources ultimately just feed back to them.

There is a hotel review that confirms this on TripAdvisor though.

Does anybody care about this?

I've always thought in this day and age it's odd that virtually every hotel room has a bible.

The tone of the article is interesting as well - again it seems to work on the assumption that the reader (and everybody) believes in a God and finds comfort in reading religious texts..

I'm amazed it could cause any fuss.

I stay in a travelodge a lot for work and can't remember seeing a bible at all in my room dating back at least a year.

Really couldn't care less if there was one or not, surely people who are quite religious would carry their own?

Why don't they just leave them ? They are already there so what on earth. Keep them and don't restock rooms if they disappear or they build new hotels. They should be available from reception.

No, it's optional. If you choose not to then you say "I do solemnly swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth"

We're not a Christian country anymore, so lets not pretend to be.

    Well done Travelodge

I opted out. I'd be the biggest hypocrite out if I swore over the Holy Bible.

You might as well put Dr. Seuss's Green Eggs & Ham in each room. Fiction is fiction. Glad the bible is being removed.

I refused to do this in my divorce and I just had to have a visit to somewhere, though I don't think it was the solicitor. I had to basically sign a piece of paper saying that I solemnly declared and all that stuff. It was done on the reception desk, all classy like. :)

They should keep a copy of every major religious text at the front desk and rent them out for a deposit but they shouldn't just leave them in each room.

Sorry your wrong, we are a christian country. Ok there are many faiths within our country amd many atheist, bit still a christian country.
Can't say its ever bothered me that hotels have bibles in the rooms, if thats all you have to worry about in life then lucky you. It's a shame for people that the bible brings comfort to.

I guess if you really wanted a Bible you would bring one yourself. I do if I want to read one when staying at a hotel (admittedly not often).

    Anyway it's online.

Bible pages are useful when you run out of Rizlas or want to snort some Coke.

You know how these late night hotel parties get.....

I've stayed in hotels many times and there has always been a Gideon bible, they give them out for free, can't say i've ever read it.

I thought the same, if I was religious I would take my own book.

Presumably because they could make people feel uncomfortable.

I would never use the term 'offended' for such a minor thing, but when I've stayed in hotel rooms and seen them they do 'bother' a small part of me.

After all, the Gideons put them there for a reason - fundamentally because they want to convert people, and I'm never comfortable with things designed to deliberately convert people.

The Gideon's also give bibles out in schools and things, again, same thing applies - I would never be 'offended' but as an atheist it makes me feel just a little uncomfortable.

No, you can affirm. The same goes for signing documents.

Bizarre article. Don't think I ever heard of this tradition. Lol at the massive photo of a bible as if we don't what they look like.

I once watched nearly all of a porn film in a hotel, by flicking between it and the channel above......every time you changed back to it you got about 5-10 seconds before it turned off again.
