Somebody please tell me there's a way to bypass this when needed.

    No idea but out of interest why would you want to bypass it.
    It only takes a few seconds.

    I suspect he has a poor signal on the freesat transponder (Same transponder as channel 407). Without a good freesat signal he will not get very far.

    I would suggest taking it to a friends to do the installation step there. That will then give him a service while he sorts out his dish.
