"Its not a bedroom, their is no bed in it" (after they had taken it out)
A child's bedroom must have room for 5 pieces of furniture, what planet do they live on.

:D:D:D Stevenage town centre would be a good place to start. They could go down benefit boulevard towards the library - tons of potential down there. :)

They'd be overrun with claimants in the town centre. Don't think any of them would even know where the library is. Walking around the town is something which I try to never do, and also Hatfield. Don't think either of these towns have shops which aren't pound shops, and loan shops.

I normally go to Home Bargains in Stevenage with my parents and that's the furthest we'll venture, though we do go to the Asda, as we find it posher than the Hatfield one which is saying a lot :o

    Oh I don't know.

Luton and Slough are pretty bad in parts. Not only deprived but violent. Then in Kent there's the Medway area, Dover and Folkestone and Margate. Just dying areas, no future, just chav central.

Southampton is a decaying place. A lot of Portsmouth is rough.

Parts of Surrey would shock a lot of people too - it's not a 'tally ho' gin & tonic sipping county by any means. Woking isn't nice, neither is Redhill or Camberley.

Still, these parts of England don't fit the 'stereotype' though, do they?

I bet none of these Southern towns and cities have rows of boarded up houses like Liverpool.

I will never think of that bit as anything else now! :D

The 24-hour 'been arrested' solicitors, the sex shop, the charity shops, the greasy spoons, Cash Converters and the NatWest, all side by side, in a real-life Jeremy Kyle set atmosphere :D

It really is the arse end of the town centre!!

At least you can park directly outside both Home Bargains and Asda so you can miss out the bit in the middle - unless you fancy a stroll down 'Benefit Boulevard'? :D

Folks need to stop watching these shows. They are either exploiting the vulnerable or playing to the narcissists who revel in being on TV no matter how shocking they come across. The producers encourage them.

The 10 year olds were a real eye opener.

I find it too much though some schools are having 'proms' for 10 year olds. It just seems wrong - it seems too 'American' at 16, never mind at 10. It's just more pressure on the parents :(

I think that was the show after, the girl with the prom dress.
Ended up watching this early this morning. Looked like it was going to be the usual one sided story , but they did run a back story on the alcoholic bloke who gave up work to look after his parents.
The 2 women didn't do themselves any favours. Moaning about being broke, haunted rooms, bedroom tax and then feeding the dogs pigs in blankets and getting 50 quid tattoos.

The mixed race kids seemed quite intelligent, as did their Mum who was going for the public sector job. The son spoke like a true socialist though when he said he didn't think people who worked should have any more money than those who don't.

But Hatfield is very close to St Albans, you'd think that would make a difference.

I agree up to a point, people could do more to help themselves. But I'm against the bedroom tax, it's simply not fair to throw people out of their home simply because their benefit is cut if they have spare rooms.

The so-called 'bedroom tax' is a misnomer dreamt up by Labour and the doleys. If these people were given a 50-room mansion, they'd soon wreck it.

However, there are parts of Liverpool, Manchester and Bradford that you'd struggle to find equivalents of in the South.

    Oh, I don't know. South Bagdhad? :D

You would be surprised at some parts of St Albans! It's not all £1 million massive houses. Not far from the city centre there are some quite dirty looking parts, complete with rows of cheap chicken take-aways and bookmakers.

Yeah Watford is a tip. Apart from the Harlequin the town centre is really ugly and run-down. The people in Watford are often quite rude I find as well.

Hertfordshire has really suffered I think from this recession perhaps more than neighbouring counties. So many towns here are in such need of regeneration and investment, yet Herts CC seems only interested in cuts, cuts, cuts. The proposed libraries and bus cuts will, as ever, hit the poorest in the county :(

None of the participants were a good advert for abolishing the Bedroom tax. The older couple had no need to move - their adult children were prepared to pay the extra !!

The father refused - as he was taking a stance against the Government !! Then, he described what he did to his pigeons......awful man !

A lot of these shows were commissioned when Richard Desmond was owner of Channel 5. He is a major supporter of David Cameron and a big donor to the Conservative party.
