Facebook friends - are they your REAL friends?

I had at its peak over 700 Facebook "friends", which I have now cut down to 215.

40 of them I'd class as friends, 12 of which are close friends.

If you're on Facebook, how many of your "friends" are actual friends?

Lol. You have 215 friends and you only think of a 1/4 of them as actual friends. Don't judge me. Especially when I'm joking.

    I think you're awesome!! :D

I keep my friends list very small (91), always have, always will. Everyone on my list is either family or real life friends, with the exception of 3. Those three friends are from DS. Even though I've not met them in real life, (most likely never will) I think of them as friends. :)

I was joking too. Should have used the smiley face.

    I actually liked your response.

I've got friends, workmates, ex workmates, family and a couple of z list celebrities who are there for comedy value. I used to have a few random people when I played games, but I got bored and deleted them all. I don't see the point in having a couple of hundred friends if you don't actually know them or interact with them in anyway.

About 80%, and of up to 40 years' standing. The others are friends of friends.

I have some acquaintances on there, people I don't consider friends as such but are useful to me so I keep in touch. The rest are close friends and family. I don't think I've ever had a friends list over 100 though. Usually when I leave people behind - ex girlfriends or ex colleagues etc - I consider them history and don't see the point in keeping in touch unless there's a specific reason to.

Excluding four people who I know through work and a few who are old flames (but I'd still class as friends even though I don't see them in person anymore) everyone on my Facebook is either a real friend or family. I don't add or accept people I don't know.

I have a facebook profile under a false name with no friends on it for offers and promotions.

On Steam (it's a computer game thing) I have 264 friends. That's nearest I get to the whole online socialising thing as twitter, instagram, pinterest, snapchat or tumblr etc. don't interest me. Never met any of them, I chat or play games with about 10 of them.

I deactivated my personal page last week, had over 500 "friends" on there, which were mainly people from school I hadn't spoken to in years, uni friends and radio/business-types I'd never met. I just got fed up of it and being on it all the time.

I still have my business page... unfortunately you need a personal page to admin it though. So I made a secret one under a new name. I don't use it.

Only a handful of my 200+ Facebook friends are people I'd consider friends. Of course, there's several "close" acquaintances- people I don't talk to normally but will socialise with if I'm in their city.

I deleted a load of people from mine though. Currently it's mostly made up of family and people I like but don't have any real contact with. Anyone I disliked or was indifferent to I removed- basically I guess everyone I have on there has the definite potential to become a good friend if the right circumstances arose!

I don't do Facebook, yet still manage to have friends.
And I get all the Facebook gossip off the kids anyway, which saves me filtering the rubbish out to just rubbish I might be interested in :p

I don't blame you for deactivating it as it's way too easy to spend...hours/days (:o:blush:) going through everyone's updates. You've got to ask yourself, do I really care about what film someone I last saw 15 years ago just went to see...? The answer to that is probably yes...! xD but the thing is, I shouldn't know! It's just not normal to know what hundreds of people are up to every day! I'd rather spend time living my own life than looking at others'.

Everyone on my FB list, I'm either related to or friends with and have met them all (regularly). We use it for having a laugh, sharing photos and quick messages.

keeping old flames on FB, who you dont keep in touch with in real life seems a bit creepy to me. Sorry.

cant work out people with thousands of so called friends

I have 78 and I know them all face to face but 50 of them I met though a charity I have been a volunteer of for the past 26 years and in fact that was the reason why I first joined as it was easy to keep in touch with - I do get requests from people I don't know but I don't see the point.

I have just over 30, which I trimmed down from over 100. 3 of the people I met online and have been friends with for years, one I talk to often on skype. The rest are family and proper friends.
When I had over 100 besides the 3 from online they were all people I knew from various jobs.

with a little effort and use of groups, you can pick up alot of "friends" who you dont know and wont really talk to all that much. The people you know off line as well, are going to be better friends.

Also some people are slightly differnt online, than they are in the real world, if you meet such a person in the real world, they wont be the same as they are online.
