So many, but the first that springs to mind is the late, great Buddy Holly:cry:

Dizzee Rascal. I know he's not gone but he's been dead to me since his second album. Sold out big time.

Free - Mr Big. Fantastic few clips from the Isle Of Wight show there featuring Paul Kossoff.

Jon Lord with Deep Purple performing Lazy. Quite a few other classic clips of this, and other Purple classics are on Youtube.

    Freddie Mercury
    Kurt Cobain
    Syd Barrett
    Bon Scott
    Ian Curtis

    Johnny & Joey Ramone
    Elvis Presley
    Buddy Holly
    Jimi Hendrix
    Jim Morrison

Biggest one of them all is Brian Epstein aswell... even if he only was just a manager, The Beatles slowly fell apart after he died and there was no leadership.

I was watching a German TV special in which one of their big variety stars, Helene Fischer (kind of a young Cilla Black-style tv entertainer, but a very good singer) was doing a duet of 'Who Wants To Live Forever' with a holographic image of Freddie, and even after his death he steals any show. Not a good idea for any living artist to try and do this...

Karen Carpenter's one for me, she would have come back into vogue, would love to have heard her live.

    Freddie Mercury
Eva Cassidy even though she sadly only became well known after she had died, I saw a play about her life when I was younger and it's made me really wish she was around today although sadly I think she'd never have came to mainstream attention had she not died.
    Aaliyah
    Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes
    Janis Joplin

    Eva Cassidy (Songbird)
    Minnie Ripperton (Loving You)
    Patsy Cline

    Johnny Cash
    Eddie Cochran
Richie Valens and Big Bopper (in plane with Buddy Holly)
    Ricky Nelson (in another plane)
Jim Croce (yet anothe plane crash)
    Don Everly
    Billy Fury (30 year ago!)
Johnny Kidd (and the Pirates - Shakin All Over)
    Jerry Garcia (Grateful Dead)
Gram Parsons (The Byrds and duets with Emmylou Harris)
Jan Berry (of surfing duo Jan and Dean)

Touring was seriously risky in the 50s and 60s. Patsy Cline was another plane crash victim whilst Johnny Kidd and Eddie Cochran died in car crashes.

Thanks to the OP for prompting these memories.

AmyWinehouse guess we'll always be waiting for that third album and what an album it would have been such a wasted talent and a sad end for a seemingly very nice girl from London.
