is wireless connection between settop box and router possible?

Hi all,
sorry my first post is a cry for help and not something constructive............you know how it is:D

I have Tiscali+ (black box, big green LED) and the Tiscali supplied Siemens Gigaset wireless router - with an ethernet cable spanned around the living room between them so as not to disturb the laminate flooring when installed.

I have tried two different sets of 'homeplugs' (ethernet over mains wiring) without success, and would like to sort this out wirelessly if poss.

I have recently tried using a Netgear WGE101 ethernet bridge at the settop box end, but still no joy. I have DHCP disabled and static IP's assigned for my home network.

Does the STB have to be a wired connection or can I go wireless? I cant even see the STB anywhere in the router login, where is its IP address?
If you have any other suggestions for a cure I'm all ears - gettin, sick of tripping over that wire:(
