I've just been informed that I'm 'A Negative', (different to both of my parents who are both Positive)

Have you ever had any complications due to your blood group? How much does it actually matter? Is my blood like liquid gold now?

Only potential problem will be if you have a +ve baby and sustain a bleed in pregnancy. However there's meds for that.

O negative. Which can cause serious complications in pregnancy. If the foetus is a different blood type to the mother, the mothers body may try to abort it. Luckily you can be given a jab of anti D which fools the body in some way.

I am A- too. I think it can be a bit risky with +ve OH when producing babies, but it is easy to sort out these days. We make up about 6% of the population with our ancestry at the northern and southern Germanic areas of Europe. My paternal granny's family had a German name, so I expect it comes that way. We knock out the Os over time!

(I learned all this by donating blood as I shall be doing tomorrow, so come on, everyone else can go too soon).

I'm O -ve and had to have anti d shots following both my labours but didn't need any injections during my pregnancies and carried both babies to full term.

    How do you find out?

I'va asked my doctor and she doesn't know what mine is. Although I've had blood tests over the years she said it's not something that gets recorded , or at least reported back.

Donate blood - then you'll find out.

A negative and have lost 8 babies but carried 3 to full term. My OH was O positive and there was a conflict with the babies blood and my blood. Injections of anti D did not stop it.

I also had an operation a few years back and felt so unwell afterwards they tested my blood and I now have anti e in my blood stream although i have no idea what it means.

My husband and I are A+ but we did not know that until we had blood tests to find out, after our pregnant daughter was diagnosed A-. Then I remembered that in algebra 2 negs make a pos and 2 pos make a neg!
