I don't go into the politics forum so I'm glad there's a link here in GD. Haven't had time to check my news sites yet either.

    Unfortunately, excess alcohol ages people.

RIP Charles. Bit of a shock to hear this, though when you consider that he was a big drinker and smoker, perhaps it isn't.

RIP Charles Kennedy 1959 to 2015.

A very likeable and decent man. So sad to hear this news.

Yes, a sad loss of a good man - & very probably a lesson for all of us, on the dangers of turning to alcohol & similar, when things go wrong.

Agreed. 55 seems very young. Always came across as a decent fellow.

Not necessarily we buried my uncle who was an alcoholic just over a week ago and he died from a blocked artery near his heart.

Lovely way to talk about a thoroughly decent man who battled his demons whilst also earning the respect of many for his political convictions. A man who lost his father at the beginning of the election, and lost his seat when he didn't deserve it.

Having battled hard all his life, I hope he's at peace now.

Sad news. He was one of the few likeable politicians, spoke out against Iraq and had a sense of humour!

Bit disrespectful to refer to him as an idiot. We all have our demons, unfortunately some more than others. Losing his Dad recently and then his seat would have been a lot to cope with in such a short space of time. Like thefairydandy has said, I hope he is at peace now.

Nice bloke. Hope it wasn't the stress of the election and losing his seat which did for him.

For all his faults/problems a fundamentally good man I believe. His problems took him out of mainstream politics some time ago and now, sadly, he'll never return. RIP Charles and condolences to his family.

It hasn't been revealed yet what the cause of death is but Good Morning Britain were talking to Lembit Opek earlier and he was talking like it was suicide.

Whatever the cause of his death is it's sad because 55 is not old.

Pretty much this, very sad and no age at all. Always came across as a very decent person.

They're all telling us that he had his demons before telling us his cause of death.

    Very disrespectful.

Yes, and you could have a worse legacy.

I thought one of the news reports was hinting at suicide. I hope not; I always think it is all the harder for your family.

Because due-process must be followed. Nothing disrespectful about that.
