I wonder if Match of The Day could top the ratings tonight with it being the first of the new season. Can't see anything except Casualty making an attempt at passing 4million.

................its already fascinating after just one result! Its a huge story over 9 months or so and the BBC can follow the story of all domestic football too this time.

Hmm possibly. that means Itv wouldnt air Granchester on Mondays after Cilla, then.

Mark my words, Tumble will remain steady today in the ratings*. It was very well received in the non DS social media.

[* not lose anymore than 0.5m]

Well it hasn't got all that far to fall if we are being honest, the initial figure was so bad. If it loses half a million its worse than last nights One Show.
I think its the same apparatus as last week(someone suggested last week) which is not doing it any favours at all.

EDIT: it isn't worse than One Show-for some reason I thought that was 2.8 million-my oh my it was bad for OS!

What did BB get with+1? Its not the lowest final for Ch5 which surprised me, thought it would be.

Wasn't it going to grow and grow in your earlier predictions?

And for a show with barely over 3m viewers, losing half a million of them is by no means "steady". It's a damaging drop for a show with no room to fall.

Splash got terrible reviews and held up so who knows what will happen. Tumble's first episode was better than the launch of Splash. But there seems to have been far less interest this week for Tumble than Splash got after its launch (albeit that interest wasn't particularly positive).

1.6million has been mentioned including +1

El Salv-what do you think CBB launch will get roughly?

My prediction was it'll remain steady the first few weeks but then grow when it follows the Strictly Come Dancing Launch episode.

Yes, I ignored the comment about DA's dwindling ratings. Even TA is aired against it, the DA overnights, while possibly slightly lower, will still give it the biggest drama overnights of the year. Unless DW surprises everyone!

The DS ratings report if anyone missed it: http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showpost.php?p=74295066&postcount=1878

Excellent points kittenkong42. I would add that we still don't know how well the athletics did on BBC Two, other than it was a "bumper night" as per DS. The level of bumper-ness remains unclear. According to Radio Times the men's 200m final was due at 19:25 (GB's Adam Gemili won gold with a time under 20 seconds).

To correct the Radio Times, the 200m Final was at 8:50pm :)

Has it been mentioned? That was just a prediction. Hope the actual figure is released.

And I'm not sure, they are advertising on Comedy Central and MTV which is good but people may be exhausted after this series. I go for 2.3m.

Seems to be on the decline now. A good time for the BBC to stick something more ratings potent against it instead of historical niche documentaries and throwaway filler drama. As we see every Xmas, DA cant cope against stronger competition as well, so showing the Apprentice against it will be a good idea.

Great scheduling by BBC Two later on, retaining all but 200k of An Extra Slice's audience for the following show about sweets.

It's a shame they haven't scheduled it that way every week, instead Sweets Made Simple is on at 8.30pm and Gardener's World is on 9.30pm (despite its regular slot being 8.30pm.)

The BBC will be able to accelerate that decline showing the Apprentice up against it. Dont forget DA declined last year despite facing very weak competition such as that Richard Hammond program. In years before-hand it had got those kind of figures partly against dramas such as Inspector George Gently. Now, if the Beeb can air The Apprentice against it, T.A. will rate around 5-6million which would be 2-3m more than last year against DA. That will ensure the BBC accelerate its decline and reduce its strangehold in the slot.

As you can see by the BBC's scheduling for this Autumn, they are on the attack. They are being very offensive, airing big returning shows in typically strong Itv slots. I would not be surprised if they do the same thing with Apprentice. The BBC knows that there are very few slots which Itv actually exceed in, so if they attack them, it will dampen Itv's figures for their big shows. And the poor rating slots will continue to rate poorly on Itv anyways. So it is a good tactic.

Come on mate play the game. Why would the BBC even be remotely interested in accelerating a decline of a show that is on the other side? It's only 8 weeks out of a 52 week year that DA causes a problem.

Downton Abbey is a big problem for the BBC. They cant launch any decent Sunday 9pm dramas in the prime Sunday 9pm slot due to how powerful DA is in the ratings, especially among the core drama OAP audience. Chipping away at DA's audience this year by scheduling the Apprentice will help reduce the audience of DA and make it easier in future years for the BBC to attempt to launch drama in that Autumn Sunday 9pm slot. Think of it like a game of chess - sacrifice the ratings of the Apprentice (which will be all but gone in a couple years anyway) to decrease DA's figures, which in the long term will help the BBC launch dramas in that slot in a few years.

To be a very successful channel like BBC One, the people running it think very tactically. Sacrificing certain shows in certain slots and denting rivals' programmes, for the good of the Beeb in the long-term.

The Doctor Who fans on the Doctor Who Forum think the first episode will overnight over 8million viewers. I doubt it but I think with the new Doctor and huge publicity, DW's overnights will be better than Merlin's in that slot, especially with the SCD lead-in. It'll certainly be better than Atlantis' ratings last year so definitely tougher competition for XF year on year!

Impossible to say if the fact an unfinished copy of the DW ep has been online for 2 months hurts it or helps it in ratings terms.

D.M.N., do you please have the official ratings for the Scottish independence debate on STV on 5 August, as well as Love Your Garden and Kids Behind Bars, which were showing on most of the rest of the ITV network at the same time?

I'm only an occasional follower of the ratings and haven't really posted much on the threads but I'll never understand why some people want to dedicate their time to shilling and spinning for either BBC or ITV.

There's absolutely no hype surrounding CBB this year at all... I'm a big fan and I've barely caught anything regarding rumored line ups or names attached to the show. I think 5 could be in for a bit of a shock this year.

It has been promoted but are purposely not confirming names, that's probably why.

either way I doubt any series will match cbb in January.
