Interesting article about #Savile & Royal Marines HQ - he certainly abused children he met as a result of his contact at the base

back into their sorded fantasy world most likely.
Leaders of the Church of England are considering the launch of a "truth and reconciliation commission" on child sex abuse in organised religions.

The age of consent only went up to 16 in circa 1973, before this many 14 and 15 year olds had actually left school and were out at work.

Don't think the interview itself is on-line yet.
The Criminal Law Amendment Act 1885 raised the age of consent for girls to 16.

You may be thinking of the raising of the school leaving age from 15 to 16 in 1973.

Thatcher fought hard to get him that 'Sir' title
That was because he was seen as a good guy in those days
having raised over £40million for charities including being behind the concept (and raised the money for) the unique specialised injuries block at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.
By the looks of it there were aides to the PM who didn't want Savile to have the title. Perhaps they could see what Thatcher couldn't. Which is odd, because (despite my abhorrence for her politics) she always struck me as quite a perceptive person.
Wonder what Jimmy had on her.
Its not too surprising that they print whatever makes them look good, though I am surprised they haven't taken that particular story down.
Its also interesting that they published that back in 1983 when I thought it had been implied that the press knew things but wouldn't publish anything, almost wouldn't criticise him at all because he had such a strong legal team and would sue for large amounts if it happened (pardon the bad wording), or was that just if he was accused of illegal activity and it was ok to complain about such exploits as long as they didn't claim it related to girls under 16? whatever.
It seems like he made it quite clear in interviews etc. what his preferences were, so I don't know why she couldn't see that? or did she not fully understand the link between sexual promiscuity and AIDS and the concern that it perhaps wasn't a good idea to be seen to award someone who promoted such a lifestyle?.
I'm not sure about her perceptiveness to be honest. Back in April, a clip was shown on Scottish news of her making a speech in Scotland where she talked about meeting a fellow Scot who had basically had a pop at her (I cant remember what exactly but it was rather obvious and it clearly went right over her head) but she hadn't understood and took what he said literally and said something like what a lovely fellow! ooh, cringe. My parents thought it was hilarious and said it seemed like she didn't understand sarcasm and thus never really 'got' the Scots...she didn't seem very perceptive, at least in that regard.
Thatcher wasn't a regular watcher of Python!? Surely not!?
