Following on from the announcement of changes to the night time line up on radio 2 from october I am led to believe that it's highly likely that in the coming weeks a similar announcement wil be made about the daytime line up. What sort of changes do you want or expect to see? Of course speculation is rife that a female DJ will be appointed to the daytime line up at long last, and it seem s that Sara Cox could be favourite . I would certainly welcome that. Steve Wright turns 60 next month.Could he be retired off or moved to a new weekend breakfast show? Anyway I'm really looking forward to hearing Bob Shennans big announcement !

I led to believe the retirement age for a man has increased from 65 to 67. I can't see he will leave anytime soon. I wonder if he will be having a party.

I think that is the age for the state pension, I don't think the BBC has a 'retirement age' because it would be discriminatory. There will be earlier ages for full time employees to be entitled to the BBC pension but that will not affect Wright as a freelance (presumably).

Where do you hear of these "changes" then?

I confidently predict there will be no changes in the near future unless Vine is off to Newsnight as has been rumoured on here.

    you never know... ;-)

Vanessa Feltz would doubtless replace him if he does replace Paxman

We shall see. As long as Ken stays in his slot and Feltz is kept as far away from daytime as possible it will be fie.

    What would your choice be?

I think it's probably wishful thinking. Daytime works well and I think Ken and Steve have got a few more years left in them yet, even though I'm not a big fan of either. The only daytime change I could imagine is Jeremy Vine leaving for Newsnight, and something like this...
    5-7 Sara Cox
    7-10 Chris Evans
    10-12 Ken Bruce
    12-2 Vanessa Feltz.

Personally I'd like to see, keeping most shows because they should stay, rather than personal preference
5-7 Vanessa Feltz or- maybe a curve ball choice like Margherita Taylor
    7-10 Chris Evans
    10-12 Sara Cox
12-2 Kirsty Young as Jeremy Vine replacement if he does go (random, I know, not a huge fan of Vanessa)
    2-4 Jo Whiley
    4-7 Simon Mayo
7-9 Steve Lamacq or Lauren Laverne
    9-10 Specialist Series
10-12 The 7-8 hosts with a later, longer show.

Weekends are more of an issue, there's easily a chance to save money, so I would do...
    Saturdays-
    5-7 Harriet Scott
    7-10 Liza Tarbuck
    10-1 Graham Norton
1-4 Sounds of the 60s with Tony Blackburn
    4-7 Steve Wright
7-9 Sounds of the 80s with Janice Long
    9-10 Specialist Shows
    10-12 Bob Harris (not overnights)
    12-3 Alex Lester
    3-5 Radio 2 Archive

    Sundays
    5-7 Harriet Scott
    7-10 Good Morning Sunday
    10-1 Ken Bruce
    1-4 Johnnie Walker
4-7 Pick of the Pops with Mark Goodier
    7-9 Michael Ball
    9-10 The Sunday Hour
    10-12 Clare Teal

There, sorted, and around £3/4m saved!

What do I want to happen? Nicky Campbell with a daytime Radio 2 show.

What will happen: Probably more irritating sounding women with no talent. Instead of talented presenters lets have presenters because they're women.

Believe me, with cost cutting if Steve Wright retires they will use it as an excuse to close a couple of production posts, which would mean the schedule would be:

    5am Feltz
    7am Breakfast
    10am Bruce
    1pm Vine
    4pm Mayo

I'm led to believe it will be a non-presenter jukebox station with tracks from the 80s, the 80s and the 80s!:o

Of course Nicky was in line for the 12 till 2 show when Jeremy Vine got it. Perhaps he could be given another shot.

If it played more than the same knackered out, clapped out, tired, boring and predictable songs that dull old Absolute 80s churns out day after day, it'd get my vote :D.

And no scripted robotic presenters, unfunny Berry & posh boy O'Connell either!!

The night changes were all about saving money rather than freshening up the schedule. Unless one of the main daytime presenters' contracts are up for renewal I doubt if any change will be made but when it does happen a woman will get the gig.

A current affairs show for three hours between 1 and 4? will NEVER happen,
There's more chance of them bringing back Waggoners Walk.

I cannot see the Topical Affairs show move from midday-2pm. Simply it is lunchtime for many, and helps fulfil the remit for a news/info programme at a time when many people can hear it.

As for a certain 63 yr old Scotsman, I sense no flagging in his enjoyment for the 9.30 to midday slot.
Of course if he could be enticed to head north if an independent Scotland and an SBC offered him some good money, maybe he will be gone sooner than I expect.

From what I can recall of the times Kirsty has stood in on that show she would make a good choice should a vacancy arise, much better than Feltz.

lets first of all assume that Radio 2 will look for a woman to fill the slot, if only so they can have one woman in daytime, but there cant be many women (or even, men) better qualified for the show.

Infact I would go as far as to say, even without the idea that it should be a woman, she is still an excellent choice for the show.

As far as Feltz goes, she is too associated with daytime TV trash, and herself as a celebrity for the role.

I can't believe this as there is cost cutting so why would Radio 2 bring in more presenters such as Mark Goodier, Kirsty Young, Harriet Scott and Margherita Taylor?, I would say that if there are going to be changes it will either just be:

1: Vanessa Feltz taking over from Jeremy Vine.

    And, or

    2: 11.30am Vanessa Feltz
    1.30pm Sara Cox
3.00pm Steve Wright In the Afternoon
    5.00pm Simon Mayo

With the rest staying the same, apart from of course a change of presenter of the Early Show, maybe Richard Allinson?.
