'Streets of Philapdelphia' is the Springsteen song. Neil Young also performed a song for the soundtrack, just called 'Philadelphia' - it's really poignant, moreso than the Bruce song IMO.

Yes... but for me, Eva Cassidy's arrangement and performance is the definitive version... better than the original by Sting himself I think. Wonderful. :)

Oh, here's an even sadder one... Dido's Lament from the Purcell Opera Dido and Aeneas. It is about Queen Dido, who cannot face life without the love of her life and finally, she dies (kills herself) of a broken heart.. I like the words she sings as she is about to die... they are simple but compelling; guaranteed to bring tears to your eyes if you play it late at night sat on your own. Hayley Westenra's version ends her Odyssey album, it just fades away gently at the end and you just want to sit there in silence.
"When I am laid, am laid in earth, may my wrongs create
No trouble, no trouble in, in thy breast.

Remember me, remember me, but ah!
    Forget my fate...."
    (Repetitions omitted).

    Evanescence ~ My Immortal.
Ozzy & Kelly Osborne ~ Changes
Boyz 2 Men & Mariah ~ One Sweey Day
    Simple Plan ~ Perfect.
Michael Bolton ~ When I'm Back on My Feet.
P Diddy & Faith Evans ~ I'll Be Missing You.

I'm ashamed to admit this but also Ronan Keating ~ If Tomorrow Never Comes :o Cheesy I know, but still makes me think.

    Without doubt...it's this song here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hm901CXujEg

I know you have a little life in you yet.
I know you have a lot of strength left.

I should be crying, but I just can't let it show.
I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking

Of all the things we should've said,
    That were never said.
All the things we should've done,
    That we never did.
All the things that you needed from me.
All the things that you wanted for me.
All the things that I should've given,
    But I didn't.

Oh, darling, make it go away.
Just make it go away now. :(
That was the first song I thought of.

Also, Everybody Hurts by REM gets me and Fields of Gold (Eva Cassidy version).

Evanescence- My Immortal- first heard it when I had just been dumped by the man i thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with (we are back together now) and I had to pull over in the car as I was crying so much I couldn't see!

Also Goodbye My Lover by James Blunt and Fields of Gold by Eva Cassidy- I remember when it was used in a Cancer Research ad a couple of years ago and would always leave me in a snivelling mess.

Has anyone seen Love Story with Ali McGraw and Ryan O'Neal? The theme music is very sad:

The original music score by Francis Lai:

And Andy Williams singing it (not a fan of his, but this is not bad as at least you get the words accompanying it):

Never fails ... even set me off when I saw Noel (ex Hearsay) performing it in What a Feeling at our local concert hall.
