Retuned the box yesterday and again today but cannot get Arise News. We live in Surrey and and get service from Crystal Palace. Anyone also having difficulties or has any idea why we cannot get the channel?

Are you getting the rest of the COM 7 channels like BBC News HD?

Yes get BBC News SD no problem. We do not have an HD box.

That explains it. Even if Arise is SD, you still need an HD compatible box to receive it. The whole Mux will be using DVB-T2 for which your box will not have a suitable tuner.

Oh thanks for the information. Strange they are putting a SD channel in a place where only HD equipment can receive it.

The Freeview HD branding is a little confusing at times. It means the receiver is capable of decoding HD channels, but in reality this means it has a DVB-T2 tuner and MPEG4(AVC) video decoder.

These standards are needed for the HD channels, but also for SD channels carried on the same multiplexes. The HD part is actually irrelevant.

The future is DVB t2 modulation at AVC and AVC coding ...... Together these mean over double the number of channels and many more in HD ....

Com7 and 8 are out in there by the two publicowned PSB and the transmitter company to encourage people to move to the freeview HD boxes which recieve this l
For the PSB the aim is to turnoff. SD emission saving money when there this the next change in frequencies ( because they are being sold to mobile telephony) .....
This is said to be say 2019 so advice is to buy freeview HD from now on .... As all HD boxes have SD output,
