Formatting a Ps2 memory card

Hey guys
As the title says i want to wipe my memory card.
Yesterday i lost all of my saves due to them being corrupt (not sure how that happened) but even though everything has disappeared from my card,its still saying that its half full.
Is there anyway that i can format my card?
