Can singer slow down the song on Disco Week ?

So that is a question because I remember Tamera sang Wishing On A Star last year and slow it down like a ballad. Is this allowed ?

It's been done on American Idol, not sure about the X Factor though, if done well I can make for an amazing performance.

I'm sure that there was a Disco Week last year in which Abi Alton slowed a song down, annoyingly.

And it was amazing. The reason that Adam arranged it that way is to both modernize it and bring out the emotion in the song, and I think he really did that.
