I became interested in radio in 1988 so Mike was the first Radio 1 breakfast show host I remember. From what I can remember he was a good listen although I was more into flicking between the ILRs! As Going Live is my era of Saturday morning TV I have a soft spot for Sarah Greene, they always seem such a solid couple and I remember Going Live coming from her hospital bed after the helicopter accident. As others have said 59 is no age.
I may be getting confused but does anyone remember a syndicated show Mike did for ILR. I think it was called “At Home with Mike Smith” where he interviewed celebrities – the only one I heard was him talking to Boy George.
I remember it was on the original GEM-AM I think on Saturdays 2-2.55pm(!) pre sports show. Anyone remember this and what stations it was on?
