Do you have to declare 'bus lane offence' to car insurer?

Hi all

If you receive a fine from the Council to say you used a bus lane when you weren't supposed to, do you have to mention that to the insurer, either when taking new cover or if you've already got an existing one?

Thanks.

You only need to inform your insurer about criminal motoring convictions. Bus lane violation is not one of them, nor is parking unless done by the police.

    No.
The only offences you need to tell them are:

Causing a crash when you were at fault
Driving a vehicle without owners consent
    Driving without licence or insurance
    Theft of a motor vehicle

So I don't have to tell them about all my speeding offences and drink driving? <roll eyes>

You do come out with some nonsense!

What about my conviction for insurance fraud ?

How very polite - I admire your restraint.

The OP wouldn't have to mention your conviction for insurance fraud unless you were going to be listed on the policy.

It's a standard question, but should be picked up by the CIFAS record.

Is this an attempt at humour or did you have a "whoosh" moment?

Even no fault accidents have to be mentioned.

Yes - if you don't report an accident even if minor and a third party reports it to your insurer later they can cancel your policy. Once you have a canceled car insurance policy it very hard to ever get car insurance again without paying huge premiums.

You have to advise of ALL crashes whether your fault or not in the last 3/5 years depending on insurer
Any conviction on your licence usually in last 5 yrs or up to 11 if its drink driving
Any criminal conviction not motoring that is not spent

If the bus lane violation is just a fine then no 😀

A couple of years ago it was an offence the same as a speeding fine, but it was decriminalised and downgraded to a civil matter.

I know because I got a bus lane offence myself a few months back so looked into it.

Very annoying as well, because every other bus lane around there is timed 7am till 10am and a similar slot around the evening rush hour. I was quite happily driving along at lunchtime assuming it was fine, but this particular lane was 7am till 7pm.
