Eltax is fairly low end, though reasonable. It may be worth taking a look at http://www.avforums.com for more specialised advice.

I would recommend the Acoustic Energy AegisEvo 3B package.

See here for details. (towards the bottom of the page)

is this the one u have too? i quite like it... whats the damage like??

Also, am i better off buying an AMP and then 5.1 surrond speakers or shall i buy just 5.1 surronds and connect to the DVD direct??

As far as SKY goes, that can still be connected to HIFI SYSTEM (using the philips speakers of course as others will blow it up for the third time.. hehe)...

What do u guys reckon?? Any more recommendations on speaker packages??

Also, most importantly... Better off with AMP as well as 5.1 speakers or just speakers??

Any help is much appreciated as always. :)

Yes I have these speakers and they are fantastic! £950.00 though!!
What HiFi best speaker package. See reviews.

Chances are high that you will need an amp as the DVD player wont have a built in one. You will also be able to connect the Sky Digibox to the amp so that you can listen through the speakers.

The better/more expensive the amp the more inputs it will have and the more items you can connect e.g. CD player, tape deck, video etc, etc.

    I've got this amp.(now discontinued)

If you're new to home cinema I suggest you get a copy of What HiFi and have a read.

Well, this one has DTS and DOLBY DIGITAL DECODING so i am assuming that it should be sufficent.

Will it be ok? or do i still need a high power AMP?

My budget would be to spend around £300 max as the hifi i was thinking of buying instead is a TECHNICS SCHE790 or 290, which has 5.1 surrond speakers. Total: 380 watts.

What do u reckon? where do i stand?

EDIT: Also, it definately would be cheaper if i use the florstanding speakers i have right now as FRONT speakers and then buy the Sub, Front and rear satallites seperately. But would this be better?? or do the speakers have to be the same package??

sorry for being so dumb! but i am new to all this and... :(

Without knowing which DVD player you have, I would assume that DECODING is all that it does. By this I mean that it has the 6 preout connectors on the back as well as the digital connector.
Therefore you could connect it to a standard amp(s) via the 6 preouts. (does that make sense?!!)

The speakers don't have to be from the same package, they just have to be suitable for the amp - ohms, wattage etc.

For £300 you could buy some thing like this.

It is a YAMADA 2100 DVD Player.

I only got it like 2/3 days ago.. Before I had a SCAN one with just optical phono connectors...

I can return this and go for a better one if necessary but this was quite good for £60.

    Does this decode only?

    http://homepages.force9.net/grahamash/magic/framejump.html?http://homepages.force9.net/grahamash/magic/standard_dvd_player/yamada2100.html

All ur help is very much appreciated m8

EDIT: only problem with returning is.. I dont know if SONY or PIONEER or whatever i buy will play DVDR and DVDRWs, etc..

    this one does

    ALSO:

Wot do u guys think of the TECHNICS SCEH 790?? this is a HOME CINEMA Package.. BUT the question is:

Is this as good as connecting using DVD's 5.1 connection with speakers?

heres the link to the two hifi's i was looking at:

    http://www.hifisuppliers.co.uk/website/home-cinema-systems/technics-sceh790.htm

    http://www.hifisuppliers.co.uk/website/home-cinema-systems/technics-scdv290.htm

    another question is:

Is it better to connect 5.1 speakers using an AMP or would it be as good if i just plug into DVD socket and play?

You could consider either of the following systems

    Sony DAVS550

    Sony DAVSA30

Both are new systems and should play DVDR and DVDRWs.

    Hmm.. phone SONY huh? :D

I have decided to buy an 80 watt AMP - SONY STRDE485 for £99.99.

Just need to buy good speakers to go with it. (5.1 ones).

Any recomendations? Want good quality and cheap obviously :D

can i use the ACOUSTIC FLOORSTANDING (130 watts) ones as Front speakers on the above amp?? And Philips hifi 120 watts one as rear?? This way all i need is a centre speaker and a Sub.

What about quality?? Would it be affected if its a mixture of Philips, Acoustics, etc???

Please HELP! I'm nearly there... :)
