This is concerning because CETA is likely to form a blueprint for TTIP which is shaping up to being a complete disaster for anyone who values democracy, innovation and competition.

This is what happens when "free trade" agreements are negotiated in secret.

Just like the European Union, the multinationals and politicians will love it because of all the opportunities to line their pockets. For the ordinary man and woman in the street.......... well, who cares about them, eh ..........

It is so comforting we have, through being in the EU, such a say in these matters. I'm not sure how it can be worse than feared as very few people knew or know about it.

What that link fails to do is put forward in straighforward terms what it all means. From what I can gather and I may be wrong this is protection for foreign investors from future legislation changes in the area they are investing in in terms of paying compensation if it impacts them and giving those investors advance notice of any such changes. This all sounds a far cry from what most people consider to be free trade which is the removal of import tariffs and other barriers.

Admitidly not read into it much.. but then it seems like you have to look in every nook and cranny to find viable information on TTIP which isn't simply smoke from either side of the fence. Of course government itself never has much to say on it either (plenty of "bigger" stories to distract people with)

On the surface just appears to be an enabler that would allow private entitys/corperations to sue governments if they don't agree with changes in law/policy
Attack on democracy... but then the lines are beginning to blur with how our government (and others) has been behaving of late

Corporate protectionism is what all these "free trade" agreements amount to.

Pretty damn anti free market, I would say.

Well afaik they have never amounted to paying compensation to companies trading in a market if they are subsequently impacted by new legisaltion which is what these new treaties appear to do.

ISDS is a bloody awful idea and even the 'right to regulate' clause in CETA won't be enough to prevent it's abuse.

You know what they say nothing does well in Canada.

Or if it is something to do with Canada.

Wonder if it will give ammunition to those who want us to eave the EU?

So Canada is going to be allowed to trade with the EU ?

Are they going to loose sovereignty and allow unlimited migration from the Eastern beggar states ?

The second largest country in the world and only 35 million population, its one place where it should actually not be an issue.

    Much of Canada is uninhabitable.

Now THIS should be something the media should be reporting on in great detail, not a ruddy song performed by a flipping DJ. Still, lets focus on the things that matter :D
