a-ha take on me. They unfortunately kept away from no one because of Jennifer Rush the power of love, which was the biggest selling single of the year.

Eminem ft. Rihanna - Love The Way You Lie without a shadow of doubt. Catchy verses, great chorus and it was STILL the best selling song of 2010 despite not getting to number 1.

    My picks from 1990 - 1999

    1990 : Alannah Myles - Black Velvet
    1991 : Seal - Crazy
    1992 : Ce Ce Peniston - Finally
    1993 : Haddaway - What Is Love ?
1994 : Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You
    1995 : Pulp - Common People
    1996 : Bluetones - Slight Return
    1997 : Natalie Imbruglia - Torn
    1998 : Steps - One For Sorrow
    1999 : Offspring - Why Don't You Get A Job ?

All poptastically, lyrically-blessed songs deprived of a UK #1.

Completely agree with you from 1992 onwards. I don't know 1990 or 1991's.

Ballroom Blitz - The Sweet. (Mind you they had a long history of missing out on the No 1 spot))

Didn't they just. Borderline criminal that "Blitz" never quite hit the top spot. With regards The Sweet I'd add "Hellraiser", 'Teenage Rampage" and "Fox On The Run" to the list of their number 2's which should have reached number 1 also.

Them aside I'd also include "Chiquitia" by ABBA and the song that inspired my username (and one of my favourite songs of all time) "Torch" by Soft Cell.

Groove Is In The Heart - Deee Lite

"Groove Is In The Heart" and "The Joker" were both tied as number 1 but because of some chart rule, "The Joker" got number 1 which meant that "Groove Is In The Heart" had to settle for the runner-up position

All about that Bass is a MUCH better song musically than Shake it off. Shake it off is one of those songs I just so no good in and I can appreciate any song as long as its catchy. This song is dull it goes nowhere its the same beat, rhythm, nearly the whole way through. Awful song

Nothing by Ts deserves number 1. Especially Shake It off which is pure dross.

oh yes Mis-teeq, reminds me of going to secondary school :)
Scandalous is such a funky good song, that is also the last one I remember from them.
And I like Alesha Dixon, she comes across very down to earth, to me anyway
