Its taken 2 crappy linear single player campaigns but they have finally realised that Bad Company 1 had the right idea for a single player Battlefield game.
Looks fantastic !
Nice to see that the genre continues to take itself seriously, as well. "[F] Cut Leg" is one of the most unintentionally hilarious things I've seen in a while, and kind of sums up the ridiculousness of the "interactive movie" approach to game design.
If you don't like this game genre, then don't buy it / play it.
I, like many others do enjoy this genre, regardless of how repetitive it may be, so I, like many others will be buying & playing this game.
Thanks for your negative comments though...appreciated.
I'm a fan of this genre, as well (I wouldn't feel comfortable offering an opinion on it if I didn't). I loved the original Battlefield 1942, I loved 1943 and I adored Bad Company 2. I liked their big, bright, open environments and, in the case of Bad Company, the sense of humour it had about itself. Battlefield 3 took a turn for the “realistic” which, as far as game design is concerned, means duller graphics (shinier and more sophisticated, but duller to look at) and less interesting maps. Battlefield 4, based on this trailer, seems to be continuing that trend – hell, it opens with a scene featuring gritty, grizzled soldiers sitting around muttering gritty, grizzled dialogue at each other about how gritty and grizzled they feel.
So no, I probably won't be buying it, but I don't see what bearing that has on my commenting on a trailer that EA have offered for public consumption, either – marketing cuts both ways, doesn't it? I'm sure I'll be outweighed by a torrent of positive comments anyway, and good on the people who write them.
When I think about the resources put into the single player game on BF3, instead of focusing on MP (which if you want to beat CoD, is what you want to aim at)...it really makes me sad.
The first 3 or four BF games didn't even have a single player for god's sake...the core of the game is the multiplayer experience.
Anyway...
I loved BF3 and played the shit out of it (although I don't believe it was better than BF2...still my most played game in terms of hours) it had a couple of problems that I hope they address in BF4, but I'm not holding my breath.
I'd like them to integrate the DLC content into the main game a little more, I liked the gun upgrade game mode (can't for the life of me remember the name of it) on Close Combat, Armored Kill was very meh for me, the maps were too big for console players but the new vehicles should have been put into the main MP game somehow.
BF2 had the same problem, Armored Fury introduced a Little Bird style chopper and an A10...they were ****ing awesome but totally wasted just being on the add-on pack.
Sniper/recon were pretty much redundant imo, every piece of kit you had gave your position away, eg scope glare indoors. Camo was done very well in MW2, you could go prone with the ghillie suit on and a guy could walk straight past you if you stayed still, it was tense as **** and really fun if you used it to stalk tanks with the C4 pack.
The maps weren't as destructible as I thought they would be. In Bad Company 2 the maps looked like shit after 20 mins or so, everything was ruined, it was brilliant...sure BF3 had some destruction but not as much as I imagined.
It did get a hell of a lot of things right, it was essentially BF2 with Bad Company 2's infantry combat, which DICE couldn't really go too far wrong with.
I play games like Battlefield for the online, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying a nice single player campaign mode as well.
Bad Company 1 was good, it played to the strengths of the BF series and was a fun distraction to the online mode.
BC2 and BF3 on the single player side of things were very poor attempts at CoD clones.
On the online side of things I hope the next Battlefield games returns to the massive destruction in BC2, bring buildings down and totally changing the map through a match was awesome and was something that was sadly missing from BF3 because they toned down the destruction too much.
I pretty much only play online multiplayer games.
Of the BF series i started back in 2005 with BF2 on the PC i loved it, played 2142 loved it, tried BF1943 found it boring, played BC2 it was decent, BF3 was good but nothing special.
Now wondering what will be different in the BF4 multiplayer. There are SO many different things id like to see from previous BF games, and new things like 128 player which i highly doubt will happen.
People said that about BF3.
Part of me hopes your right. The designers of Call of Duty could do with a kick up the Ass, but a next gen Call of Duty will sell by the truck load.
Had a friend who said he was tired of COD & how he was going to get BF3 & it was going to kick COD's backside etc... Well he went out & got BF3, Played it, Never got into it & 3-4 months later ended up trading it for Black Ops 2.
I've played all the BF games & do enjoy them to an extent but i've never had as much fun with them as I do with COD & thats why despite its flaws I always end up going back to COD over BF.
I just don't find the slower paced gameplay, Larger maps & squad based gameplay you get with BF to be all that much fun to play.
Yes COD has its flaws, But overall I always have tons of fun with each new title which is why I keep going out & buying each new release.
For me BF already has killed CoD, I played CoD4 to death online then played BFBC2 beta, bought MW2 but carried on playing the BFBC2 beta as MW2 was such a let down after CoD4 and felt almost last generation compared to BFBC2. BF3 was a bit of a let down TBH but I haven't played a CoD game online properly since CoD4.
Me actually  .
I buy all my PC games in order to play the single-player campaigns partly as a 'story' background (such as as there is, anyway ) and as practice for any online multiplayer that I choose to join in with.
I enjoyed all the CoD campaigns, Modern Warfare with Price & Soap, BFBC2 was brilliant to play with its banter & its destructability, and even Battlefield sp campaigns are reasonable enough. If any of you ever played any of the No-one Lives Forever games, the singleplayer was fantastic and the multiplayer was friendly as well as competitive.
Multiplayer has lost its shine for me over the past few years as more often now it's infested with rude kiddies cheating their way through the games  but I'll still jump into BFBC2 or a bit of Battlefield online occasionally.
I also buy many completely single-player games such as Skyrim, Far Cry, Dishonored, Deus-Ex and....hopefully....Thief 4
I'll keep an eye on BF4 and decide later.
Not all of us gamers are simply rushing for the Online Experience. Some of us like to take the time to smell the roses and look at the scenery.... while gunning people down
Call Of Duty has always been known for its campaigns (just look at the voice actors used in the very first game) as well as its multiplayer. I doubt EA could justify charging £49.99/£54.99 RRP for an online only game this generation.
Bad Company is a Battlefield Spinoff. EA focused its first game advertising on introducing 3 of the characters by poking fun at other popular games like Gears Of War (watch the Bad Company - Bad World clip on YouTube) and Metal Gear Solid. I now expect every future Bad Company game to have the same characters in it otherwise it's no longer Bad Company.
