Just wondering if tonight's threat of smog over the South East of England will be beneficial to TVDXers on a similiar par to fog?

The same temperature inversion which trapped the pollution and Saharan dust also causes VHF and UHF signals to travel much further than normal. This also causes co channel interference problems to both FM radio and Freeview TV.

Yes, the smog was caused by high pressure over the UK, and TV DX can occur during high pressure "lifts". Dutch TV came in loud and clear during these conditions. So in my case, yes the smoggy conditions were good for DXing.

If you want to know more about TV DXing, then take a look at the technical forum, where many of us DXers lurk.

    Best regards

    Jon
