  Try 'Death Comes As The End' by Agatha Christie. It's a whodunnit set in 2000BC. Agatha's husband was an archeologist and she used to accompany him on his digs. Excellent story.

  Barbara Erskine's Whispers in the Sand is set in presnt day, 19 th century and harks back to ancient Egpypt as well. Don't know if it's exactly what you're after buti enjoyed it

  I read the Wilbur Smith trilogy of River God, The Seventh Scroll and Warlock some time ago. Fabulous books, I loved them.

  I read Warlock a long time ago. It was good.:) I don't think you have to read the trilogy in any particular order because I hadn't read the previous ones.
