Matterface again showing how poor a commentator he is. Not only that his bias towards Chelsea is cringe-worthy, why on earth do we have to suffer him when Proudfoot is light-years ahead of him?

You don't rate Matterface. We get it. Do you really need to mention it at every opportunity?

Yes because as a football fan it irks me that such a shocking commentator is able to broadcast on national radio and anyone with any sanity should be of the same opinion. He is an insult to all commentators and every local radio commentator must wonder what they have to do to broadcast to a wider audience.

Perhaps worth noting for any new radio rights deal that there will now be more first picks in Saturday 17.30 (9) and fewer at Saturday 12.30 (6) which is presumably going to influence to some extent the attractiveness of the slots that 5 Live/Talksport are going for.

That said, there might still be decent games at Saturday 12.30 because Sky will still have the flexibility with their second picks to use big games there before Champions League midweeks if they wish (rather like how Monday Night Football doesn't contain any first picks but by having first, second and third choice on lots of weekend Sky have been able to put the likes of Manchester United V Chelsea and Manchester City V Chelsea in the MNF slot over the past 18 months.)

talkSPORT's website now says Sunday's FA Cup coverage will include commentary of Bradford v Sunderland.

They also confirm they'll have commentary of Paris SG v Chelsea and Manchester City v Barcelona in the Champions League. Not sure if they're going to be doing Arsenal v Monaco yet - BBC Radio 5 Live will be.

As for League Cup Final day...

BBC Radio 5 Live have Six Nations commentary of Ireland v England at 3pm meaning the first half of Chelsea v Tottenham will be on 5 Live Sports Extra. The second half will be on both.

talkSPORT will have a trio of commentaries that day including Liverpool v Manchester City (12:00), Arsenal v Everton (14:00) followed by the League Cup Final (16:00).

    BBC World Service (Africa)

Africa Cup of Nations: Equatorial Guinea 2015

With the tournament having concluded at the weekend, before it slips to the back of my mind I've record the details of the BBC World Service's coverage of it on here for posterity. Unfortunately BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra didn't simulcast any of their coverage as they did with the semi-finals and final of the 2013 edition of the tournament, so I have relied upon Twitter and the As It Happened pages of the BBC Sport website for the information below.

I'm not sure how many commentaries the BBC World Service produced, but I know they broadcast commentaries on the opening game (Equatorial Guinea v Congo), all four quarter-finals, both semi-finals and the final in English, French and Swahili. Here's the details of their English language coverage.

Saturday 17th to Wednesday 28th January - Group Stage

Bata (Group A) - Steve Crossman and Nick Cavell (both on MD1, the former on MD2 and the latter for MD3)
Ebebiyin (Group B) - Ed Harry and Alex South (MD1), Nick Cavell (MD2) and Matthew Kenyon (MD3)
Mongomo (Group C) - Matthew Kenyon
Malabo (Group D) - Ed Harry and Alex South (MD1), Steve Crossman (MD2 & 3)

The World Service's MD3 reporters at the stadiums hosting five games from each group covered the matches taking place at that ground on the final matchday of the group on the same side of the draw (so Nick Cavell covered Democratic Republic of Congo v Tunisia from Group B in Bata for example).

    Saturday 31st January

    Africa Cup of Nations Quarter-Finals
Congo v Democratic Republic of Congo & Tunisia v Equatorial Guinea (Bata) - Piers Edwards and Matthew Kenyon

    Sunday 1st February

    Africa Cup of Nations Quarter-Finals
Ghana v Guinea & Ivory Coast v Algeria (Malabo) - Steve Crossman and Nick Cavell

    Wednesday 4th February

    Africa Cup of Nations Semi-Final
Democratic Republic of Congo v Ivory Coast (Bata) - Piers Edwards and Matthew Kenyon

    Thursday 5th February

    Africa Cup of Nations Semi-Final
Ghana v Equatorial Guinea (Malabo) - Steve Crossman and Nick Cavell

    Saturday 7th February

Africa Cup of Nations Third Place Play-Off
Democratic Republic of Congo v Equatorial Guinea (Malabo) - Nick Cavell (reports only)

    Sunday 8th February

    Africa Cup of Nations Final
Ivory Coast v Ghana (Bata) - Steve Crossman and Matthew Kenyon

Farayi Mungazi presented most of the editions of Sportsworld that included live Cup of Nations commentaries, including all of those from the knockout stages, although I'm not sure if he was live at the grounds or hosting from a central base/studio. Lee James also hosted a couple of AFCON-led editions of Sportsworld, while John Bennett was also involved in their coverage (I think he and Piers Edwards were primarily reporting for BBC World News on TV).

Perhaps the most notable - certainly the most notorious anyway - thing about the World Service's AFCON coverage was how Steve Crossman and Nick Cavell had to abandon their broadcast of the Ghana v Equatorial Guinea semi-final during the crowd trouble that held up the match for over 30 minutes. Here's how the final moments of their commentary sounded: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/31161604.

Ian Danter will be hosting Matchday Live on Saturday, Mark Saggers will present Kick Off: FA Cup Live on Monday and Saggers and Dants will share the presenting duties on Sunday Exclusive.

Elsewhere, Adrian Durham will have few notable guest co-hosts on his weeknight Drive Time show - Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic on Monday 16th February, Neil Warnock (back on the station for the first time since leaving Crystal Palace I think) on Friday 20th February and Gary Neville on Tuesday 24th February.

Nigel Pearson has replaced Nigel Adderley at WBA, the latter unable to get there due to the traffic chaos on the M40. That's ruined XTC's plans.

Australia v England - Jon Norman, with Jack Bannister providing end-of-innings analysis

    Rugby Union: Six Nations
England v Italy - Mike Bovill
Ireland v France - David Brady

Between 6-10am, Georgie Bingham and Jason Cundy presented the Weekend Sports Breakfast from the Cabbage Patch pub outside Twickenham ahead of the England v Italy Six Nations game. They also had a panel of Brian Moore, Kyran Bracken and Ben Morgan. There was no Up The League this morning with Geoff Peters being on holiday, meaning The Warm Up moved forward to 10am and Matchday Live began at its old start time of 12noon.

As mentioned, Nigel Pearson stepped in for Nigel Adderley on commentary duty at his local ground the Hawthorns due to the traffic on the M40. Pearson tweeted last night that he was due to be reporting on Bolton Wanderers v Watford. I'm not sure if Graham Beecroft has duly been re-routed to the Macron Stadium from another game, if so geography would suggest he may have been due to be at Blackpool v Nottingham Forest. Great to hear Pearson doing his first talkSPORT commentary of the season, I thoroughly enjoyed what I heard of it.

Pearson is still infinitely better than Matterface. It is criminal that Matterface is used so regularly yet decent comms like Pearson are seldom used.
