Using those numbers without a preowned market the publishers would make 40% more money without a preowned market.

They would, but that is a short term gain. A gamer could only afford 10 games instead of 40 and the smaller publishers would never get a look in as it would be a huge risk to spend 10% of your budget on an unknown title. And how many people would lose interest in gaming altogether if they could only afford 10 games a year? How many games like Colonial Marines would it take for a gamer to lose faith in gaming altogether? The "big boys" would survive as they can hype up their games, and generate sales. The little guys wont stand a chance.

Am I the only one who thinks no preowned market will kill off gaming?

Lets say the gamers budget is £400 a year. No preowned will mean your budget will let you play 10 day 1 releases. Now with the preowned with £400 a year budget (if you are in any way a smart consumer) will let you play 40-60 games easily, including 5 or 6 day 1's and the rest preowned/on sale. You will most likely play games you never would bother with, especially at full price, If you are limited to 10 games a year you will most likely stick to FIFA, COD, Bioshock, Gta, etc. the big ones or the ones with the biggest advertising/most hype. And if nobody is touching the small titles those companies will eventually die off. And when everybody is pissed off with the yearly generic franchise shit there will be nobody left making anything else.

Could agree more, if the pre owned market disappeared, i'll admit right now i would only buy sequels and yearly releases

I just wouldn't want to risk it, i could spend £40+ on a brand new IP looks great but is only getting a mixed to positive reception or i could spend £40+ on the new Fifa or CoD that i know for a fact i'll play for long enough to make it worth the price

So with no pre owned wouldnt sales of Cod/Fifa drop off?, because gamers are not trading in last years Fifa/Cod for the new one , so bye bye any creativity or originality then , we will have to rely on indie games for that.

one more thing , how can an industry soon to be worth £82 billion keep complaining its so poor , its pure greed!!

Reports are circulating that Microsoft have cancelled their post-press E3 conference - that'd be the one where all the questions about DRM, Kinect, Used Games, Connection requirements etc were going to be dealt with. Probably would have been a few questions about the need for underclocking rumours too. Whatever, it doesn't look good:

It is probably for the best as I still don't think they fully know what to do regarding the used games and DRM. So why not get a little bit of bad press for cancelling a QA session rather than another shit storm when all their people contradict each other again trying to answer question they have no firm answers to.

I would be amazed if that is true, MS have invested 1 Billion into games apparently, so it would be strange for them to sink that low. It wouldn't put them in a good light if they did such a thing, and would make them look desperate. I can't think of the name, but one of the MS execs said they are going to kill Sony at E3, if that is the case I hope they don't do it this way.

Looks like he can consider himself off Microsoft's Christmas list.

Another interesting piece from Forbes, a business analyst thinks proposed DRM is misguided:

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/johngaudiosi/2013/06/06/analyst-believes-xbox-one-and-ps4-could-solve-used-games-issue-by-looking-at-pc/

    some quotes:
“It’s a sign of an unbalanced business model of the whole platform that second hand games are such a huge success and that the games industry sees that as a problem,”

"Keeping retail prices at $60 and not allowing second hand games won’t work"

“Why not make the direct download games 50% of the boxed price and have the consumers choose if they want to own a hard copy that they can share, or download it cheaper. "

"If the next gen consoles do decide to lock out consumers with used games, just as they’ve locked out the backwards-compatibility of existing Xbox 360 and PS3 libraries; free to play gaming is one area that could experience even more growth. Nothing beats free, after all."

I seem to remember Sony made a similar gaff related to GT using a PGR picture. I am guessing this is the same sort of thing in that the work was farmed out to some out of touch company.
