Nokia Lumia 520 - Tethering very unreliable

Is it possible to get a reliable tethering connection using a Nokia Lumia 520? Even on a low budget phone, you'd expect a feature like this to be usable instead of unreliable.
I can connect to the phones WiFi hotspot okay, but the internet just stops randomly. Sometimes it happens after 5-10 minutes, other times it takes about 1 or 2 hours.
I know it definatly isn't a network problem because when I use a MiFi to connect to the internet using the same network (Three), it's very reliable. So it's specifically a problem only when tethering.
