Couldn't have said it better, but I wonder if we should keep feeding a troll!

The way I see it is that the OP is posting to get a reaction to wind people up but I think the majority of people in this thread have countered his stupid posts with well reasoned and logical arguments which is why he posted again to try it once more but it really isn't working.

At the end of the day, he hasn't answered one single post with a counter argument to back up his claims and far from feeding the troll I think we've all done something even better, which is not to give him the reaction he wants and just brush him of with well reasoned arguments. I think that's been just as effective and really it's backfired and the joke is well and truly on him. He's come out of this looking more silly than the rest of us.

    :)

The big concern I have is that Capaldi is way too good an actor for DW as it is now, the stories that have been churned out over the last year or two have been pretty poor.

I'm pretty sure it's only because he's a lifelong fan that he's agreed to do it, otherwise he'd have no reason to get involved.

Hope Moff gets his finger out and makes the show what we know it can be.

Capaldi is Baker/McCoy all over again.

Already I have seen feedback from DW's important main fans and they have not taken to Capaldi at all.

I expect 2014 will be the last series, at least for a multi-year hiatus.

    Oh, and MOFFAT out!

OK, so let me get this right. You've formed an opinion of a character from exactly 35 seconds of screen time. You've already decided you don't like them and what's more you're predicting the end of the most popular 'cult' TV programme on the planet, steered to this position by the very person you want out. 72 million people, million of pounds in international sales to TV companies around the world, the winner of the very prestigious Hugo sci-fi award, countless fan clubs and on & on.... all wrong, based upon these 30 seconds.
Exactly where are you basing your opinion to make such a judgement?

As for the Doctor being older than Clara so older guy with young lady equals creepy, remember the Ninth Doctor with Rose? The Ninth was like a protective "dad" to her, Rose didn't show any romantic interest until he turned into the 10th!

Some people seem to forget the Doctor had incarniations appearing older than 40 - First, Second, Third, Fourth, Seventh, Ninth now Twelfth.

I thought Eccleston was in his mid-late thirties when he did the role? Of course, it all depends on how Capaldi plays the role and there's always going to be some people who think that there is or should be romance between the two.

The problem is that ever since Rose, the Doctor seems either to be the object of sexual affection or he's romancing women left, right and centre. Presumably by casting an older actor who looks old, they're moving away from that. I hope they just move away from it altogether. If you want to do sexual tension, there are far more subtle ways of doing it, and besides, if you're travelling through space and time, romance will look a bit minor in comparison.

The time-traveller figure is inevitably romantic (in the sense of wish-fulfilment) so I have no problems with companions having a deep admiration for the Doctor. It's just when everybody wants to get it on with him.

I agree it is a tad annoying when romance is involved, just to keep the female fans on side - some like a bit of romance as DW is meant to appeal to all ages, including kids & women which is likely a reason the hardcore Whovians deeply dislike this direction and lament about their favourite show being dumbed down.

Romance in the new series do not always occur as there was none between Rose & Ninth, Martha & Tenth (Martha kept her true feelings hidden) Donna & Tenth, Amy & Eleventh (she only wanted a bonk no more than that!) and Clara & Eleventh (but she seemed to fall for him just before the change to Twelfth) also very likely none between Clara & Twelfth due to age gap.

Eccleston, according to Wiki, was 41 when he did the first series.

Malcolm Tucker as the Doctor, looking forward to this! Hope the Twelfth will have a moodier side like the actor portrayed as Tucker without the cursing. My guess he'll be similar in personality to the Ninth with the dry wit and cynicism.

For the trolls out there, as Malcolm Tucker would say: F*ckity-Bye!
I thought there was a bit of a 'romantic' subtext between Nine and Rose back in Series 1.

What are the digital spy rules & regulations on dealing with trolls? Because the troll in question seems to have free reign to start provocative threads..

The bolded is for me the issue, when all the gals just see him as a good-looking bloke and enter the TARDIS just because they fancy him. Ever since Grace started drooling over the Eighth Doctor, it seems obligatory that almost all female companions/secondary characters must flirt and giggle over him. Just because the actor is attractive, that doesn't mean that the show has to acknowledge it.

For me it trivialises the potentially fascinating dynamic that could arise from the set-up.

"They" are not as important as you, or they, think they are ;)

This is 2013, the show is massive and the clique in the corner represents a much smaller percentage of fandom than it used to.

    Viva la Revolucion!

Yeah, please read your post again, think about it and ask yourself......is there really any possibility of 'Who fans' not rising to stuff? You should know better. Hang your head in shame. :D

Oh a 'girl' who likes WHO? We used to tease girls who said they watched Dr Who back in the T.Baker days haha.
No Pertwee was just a fatherly gent to Jo IMO - I always thought of him as her father figure.

oooer. And I wasn't even a geek! Well maybe just a little

I think the fact that it's only got 3 supporters says all that needs to be said.

Personally I also have no concerns - he's a very good actor and will be just fine. Yes he's safe, no risks taken in casting but so what bring on 12.

Back in 2005, did you contribute to the ludicrous danielcraigisnotbond.com website? Casting Daniel Craig as Bond was a disaster, they chirruped. Casino Royale would flop dreadfully. Everyone would hate Craig. And "every fan" the detractors spoke to, thought the same.

    Sound familiar?

Three films on, Craig is the most successful Bond. His third film was the most successful of the franchise (even adjusted for inflation) and the most critically-acclaimed. Where are those naysayers now, one wonders?

Wiser heads, of course, reserved judgement until they had seen Craig in the role. Just as wiser heads will wait to see Peter Capaldi as the Doctor. But just as the Bond producers opted for a bloody good, experienced actor in Daniel Craig, so have the Who producers in Capaldi. The omens are good.

Haha yes, I remember the uproar over Craig's casting well. Funny how history repeats itself, so to speak. :D

As with any new version of the Doctor, I suspect some will love Capaldi's incarnation. Some will hate it. Most will probably be somewhere in between, they'll just enjoy the performance and won't have any extreme views one way or the other.

The list of these sorts of things is endless. The lesson? Fans and fandom never learn. We might know the show. We might obsess over it. But we sure as hell dont know what's right for it most of the time. The best combination is what we have been lucky enough to have so far in New Who. Fans and experienced TV professionals who know the reality of making a TV show. Fans for the most part are unoriginal. Especially when it comes to casting. They never have to create something new and exciting. They just call for more the same. Again and again. Because they lack imagination. Example- Cumberbatch is in another Moffat show. Hes a bit like a dark version of the Doctor. He is a quirky well spoken Englishman. He should be the master! Yawn yawn yawn.

But as I say. Forums and message boards will continue to bitch and moan.

Heath Ledger will be a rubbish joker (Oscar winner)

Daniel Craig is too blonde for Bond and will ruin the series (two of the highest box office hits of the series, critical and commercial acclaim)

Michael Keaton as Batman? Too wimpy and nothing like Bruce Wayne either (box office gold and for the most part critical acclaim)

Ben Affleck as Batman? Outrage! (we shall see about this one...)

In the darker recesses of sad fandom there are still people who get upset about Kirstin Dunst being Mary Jane Parker because her dentistry wasn't perfect enough. Thankfully these people buy the tickets to watch the films. They don't make them. Its why 99% of fan fiction is risible trash.

    This.

My only 'fear' is that Capaldi will stumble upon Who forums and find out he's shit. Not that he'll actually be shit, just that there will be plenty of people who say he is.
