I'm finding it all rather boring though and I think I'll probably stop using it in a few days. I just don't see the point tbh.
I'm only following a few celebs atm because none of my friends are on there (too busy with facebook). So does anyone want me to follow them on Twitter?
I'm hoping the more people I follow and hopefully if people follow me I'll see what all the fuss is about.
I joined to have a look as Chris Moyles is always on about it. Can't say that I was that impressed as I haven't bothered to login since. Dull, anyway you can get all the gossip on here:)
So far, in the month or two I've been messing about on Twitter, I've been to a few gigs I wouldn't have known about, had several conversations with the lead singer of my favourite band (mostly about each week's episode of 24!), had something sent to me in the post by a comedian, and some very nice messages from a few TV comedy writers whose work I've really enjoyed, and discovered an artist/designer whose pieces I liked so much that I bought one of her t-shirts.
I don't think it's like Facebook at all, Facebook is all about keeping in touch with friends, people I know in real life, while Twitter is something... different..
It reminds me of Ernest Hemmingway's complete story in just six words. Except twitter is a little more generous with 140 characters.
I dip into Twitter the same way that I read blogs... mostly industry related stuff... I tend to follow industry professionals that I have respect for (not counting the obligatory friends and family) It's interesting to see what's caught their attention or what they're finding interesting and it can often lead to useful discoveries.
Writing a proper blog post/article takes a lot of time to think about and construct. (I don't read blogs where they don't take the time to think about it.) Whereas if they just wanted to mention a quick link, or a spark of inspiration that won't make a substantial post, they can use Twitter.
I resisted jumping on the Twitter bandwagon for a long time... but since I hooked it up to my facebook status, and using a combination of "twitteriffic" and "growl" I'm finding that I'm just using it as part of my general computer/internet use without consciously thinking, "ooh, I'll just log on to my twitter now".
I used to follow a bunch of celebs, but I just didn't find them interesting enough... and it became a case of "information overload"... these days, the only celebrity I follow is stephen fry.
The thing that this thread reminded me is that anyone can see your real name and photo - so I took my last name off and replaced photo with a picture my mate did for me
e.g. big hard lad - I now know your real name and are presumably up for some bum loveing (based on your photo)
(as if the user name didn't give it away )
also it wouldn't be hard to ascertian which uni you are at (belfast?) - that's a lot of info!
i went on a while back, it was boring.
mostly its about narcissism.
and well the hype..the promoters aka "journalists"/bloggers etc tend to have a conflict of interest since those are the types that want to promote themselves with such a tool.

The best person to follow, IMO, is this guy... http://twitter.com/big_hard_lad
