Not paying for a TV Licence

I rarely watch TV and if I do it's usually on catch-up via the iplayers, so I was thinking of stopping paying for a licence and just saying similar to what's in the link below. The problem I see is that they're going to make a fuss, sending letters, knocking on my door and such like, so I was wondering what experiences other people might have had when not paying for a licence.

Remember that if you use the live function or the 2 hour rewind function on iPlayer without a TV licence you are breaking the law. Only proper catch up is legal without.

If they send letters or come knocking I normally tell them to take a hike.

I've never had a TV licence and don't intend too.

If you watch live TV then just pay up. It is attitudes like this that mean people who genuinely do not even have a TV, let alone watch it live, are accused of lying.

I stopped last summer. But I genuinely do not watch live TV. The only show I watch from BBC is Doctor Who and I watch it later on or next day.

The licence people asked me why I wanted to cancel my licence and my explanation was obviously satisfactory as they have not bothered me so far.

Or it's the attitude of just paying up that means we're still subjected to the tv license. It is of course the law if you watch live tv you must have a license.

there is no law saying you need a tv licence

    just an act

technically you cannot be punished for not following an act , unless you consent to it

so just tell them to **** off

Signed the electoral register? You've consented to all the acts :D

P.S. It's worth letting as many documents that have you declaring to be a 'United Kingdom Citizen' lapse too as that's an admission of being a member of the UK Society, which in turn consents to being bound by UK 'law'.

Just as long as you remember to revoke each and every version of all the statutes you no longer wish to consent to (and resend every time you sign a new thing that acts as a covert consent) :p

wow, reading up on this....if someone tries to enforce an act on you after you formally withdraw consent you can charge them as you see fit.

So presumably on the same principle that speeding is covered by an Act (http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1984/27/section/89) you tell the rozzers to F off when they pull you?

    Good luck with that one...

law is a funny thing,......thats why the gov tries to confuse with you acts

you can revoke consent to any/all act and invoice people who try to enforce them

rozzer could be outta pocket in your scenario

they are employed to enforce law....not acts , could also lose his job

Perhaps you should read this if you really think Acts Of Parliament are not laws.

ive read it, nowhere does it say i cannot revoke my consent to be governed by acts

    laws are laws
acts are the gov moving the goalposts(amending laws or making them up as they go along)

Is there any instance of anyone, anywhere, actually getting away with not doing something because it was an 'act' and then charging whoever tried to enforce it ? I have my suspicions....

all that says is 'there is no procedure'

it does not state you cannot

    since there is no procedure
    i could post here

I withdraw my consent to be governed by laws and stautes...anyone who tries to enforce these will be levied a charge of 25 pigs and a blue sheep
    signed grps3

witnessed by everyone who posts after this one

Yeah, that's exactly what it's stating.

I would stop getting legal advice from that guy who lives in the park if I were you.

Well there is technically a procedure to withdraw consent but it involves placing large barrels of incendiaries in the tunnels of the Isle of Dogs :D

I did check with RTE who stated I did not need a licence to watch their channels outside of ROI, I do not get any U.K channels due to location.
