The franchise will miss Dame Judy.

Its boring really. You can watch the old bond films with connery and moore over and over but these latest ones arent up to scratch. Bond was always tongue in cheek. Daniel is too serious. Raises a smile at times though! Only the end bit is any good. The action in the old films is better.

I like Skyfall, I think it is a fitting movie for the 50th anniversary. Scenes in London and Scotland, nods to previous Bond cliches (the DB5) and the smile-inducing ending when Ralph Fiennes is in the familiar office as the new 'M'

As with all Bond films, they're a product of their era - this time around reboots were in and Nolan's Batman became huge business, so everyone followed suit in "playing it straight" (it doesn't take a genius to see the occasional similarity between Skyfall and The Dark Knight). There does seem to have been a shift away from that lately though so I suspect the next era of Bond films won't be much like this one.

The director flirted with the idea of Connery filling the role of the gamekeeper but they ruled it out. Doubt he would have accepted the offer anyway.
    He just isn't Scottish enough.

Still better than *cough* Quantum of Solace though

That's hardly difficult though, that was one boring mess of a film.

Crazy how ITV use 2:37:1 ratio sponsored inserts and show the film 16:9

I was gripped for the first 15 or so minutes .....Bond chasing baddie, loads of action , then baddie escapes and Bond falls hundreds of feet down waterfall.
Then new Q appears (poor casting)
Then not much happened apart from men shooting each other for a couple of hours
Judi Dench quits the Bond franchise .RIP M
Not a patch on Connery, Moore, Brosnan ,and Dalton

I don't think it could have been any better. It was fitting it did so well at the box office. There are some really good scenes. Like when M and Bond are stood on those hills looking down at Skyfall in the distance.. the soundtrack at that point was haunting. Brilliant soundtrack. Brilliant cast. Story line that was engaging enough to make you want to watch and a nice mix of humour and nods to the franchise to make it relevant to the 50 years.

They're probably fed up with numpties calling in to complain that they've "cut the top and bottom off."

Skyfall was dire. What was up with all that secret information being stored on a blooming memory stick?

I also don't like the concept of Bond having a midlife crisis, in a very very clunky metaphor for whether the series can last another fifty years. Also hated the stereotypical camp villain; it felt like being in the 1970's! Bond was also creepy when he slid into that shower. Distinctly uncomfortable.

One thing about Skyfall, which I feel has been largely absent since around about Goldeneye, actually, and that's a very good soundtrack, which I think is ever so important. When I first heard Thomas Newman was composing, I had high hopes we were going to get something decent (I love his 'American Beauty' soundtrack). I wasn't disappointed!

I thought that he was rather creepy there too.

Bond can't really get away with that in the 21st century.

What made me laugh was that Severine just seemed to presume that it was Bond who had his hands all over her. For all she knew it could have been the ship's cook copping a feel!

    Agreed.

I loved the John Barry years and feel he has been missed. Nice to enjoy a Bond soundtrack again.

I presume you are excluding the track Ladies First from that statement! Every time I watch the film that track just grates and seems totally out of place in the film.

The soundtrack is very good... this track in particular. It's chilling. They used it during the scene where Bond and M are stood looking at the Scottish Moors. One of the best scenes in a bond film IMHO.

This time I think they are going for a retro feel as the fifties and sixties are cool now.
