What a shambles the end of that was, and EST are the team everyone beats. So now SCO w are looking for top-4 or a tiebreak, and if they lose tonight then it's looking like a scramble to be in the Worlds.

Meanwhile, ENG m are in charge v EST (Div 2) but the ENG w lost to Norway this morning, no surprise there. Hopefully they can win their final games to secure a top-4 place.

SCO m beat CZE to go 3 - 3, if they beat Russia but lose to Sewden they would eb 4 - 4 but with two winable games to come, so still good chances of a playoff. But must beat Russia first as Edin appears to be unbeatable!

The Scottish men have just lost 6-5 to Russia on the final stone - so are tied in 6th with Germany and the Czechs at 3-4..

So not a good day so far - and its battling for places at the worlds now. They will certainly need to beat Italy or Sweden who are currently topping the table.

The Swedish men looking strong as always; Nick Edin a really solid dependable player.

It would have been a very interesting last shot for the Russian skip if Edwards had managed to get a corner freeze on his own stone in that last end.

Yep, they got into a mess and tried to steal their way out of it, and didn't get lucky. Got to question some of the skip's shot selection, admittedly curlit isn't the most accurate of animals and Edward's is there on top of the house, but there was one, possibly two choices in that game where I wonder if he simply missed the bleeding obvious? But being a keyboard worrier is one thing, being there and under pressure is another.

But should stay in the World's as Denmark and Latvia both have games v Switzerland and we still have the three wins.

Big game for Evie tonight, as there is for the English women (v, Hungary). Ladies night it is then, who's the stripper??

Red card for that >:( :D

happier evening for Evie so far, not doing much, just letting the Germans make error after error and it's 7 to nill after 3. Hopefully it's shake hands after 6 and heads on for tomorrow's big game.

But they've let one big lead slip already today - Shirley Knott again?

Eng women 5 - 3 up after 7 but without LS.

Yes - sorry bad joke. But I am sure if he turned up to a ladies night he would be most appreciated.

9-1 up now for Eve after 5 - so pretty much over. Sweden and Finland left to play - and still in with a chance of the play offs.

Finland are in freefall, Scotland can still get to 6 so it's all in their own hands.

Well lets hope Andrea doesn't take us to court over that result!

Interesting game with the Danes at the moment. Their result will make a difference on how the play-offs are likely to look. I don't think 5-4 will make a tie-break this time, even 6-3 could only be a tie-break play-off. It's looking like two wins needed for Eve, that meltdown loss to Estonia could be a real tournament killer.

Denmark play a good final end and get their win. They along with the Swiss and Swedes only need one more win to get at least a tie-break. Russia already qualified for the play-offs.

Whisper it softly, but Scotland's men might just be about to pull off a little miracle of their own - just had a steal of two to go 8-5 up in the 8th against the unbeaten Swedes.

    I jinxed them, 8-8.

Disastrous 8th end for Edwards, should've just put a guard up to force a shot from the Swede, dont know what he attempted but Erin got a 3 to level the match

Nice recovery in the 9th, Scotland lead 10-8 going into final end

    Sweden get a 3 in 10th to win 11-10

And would you credit it, they give up a 3 again! Denmark and Latvia both lost so at least 8th place is secure.

Thrown it away again. Why didn't Edwards set about clearing out in that 10th? Edin must have though it was his birthday. That back red was always gonna be crucial and Edwards should have gone for the double take-out much earlier.

Hopefully this week will be a big lesson learnt for everyone. You can get away with things in the Scottish Champs or the circuit games, but you can't take things for granted in the majors.

What is it with Scotland and 3 shot leads? Scared of winning? To give up 3 twice in the last 3 ends takes some doing.

I blame BBC Scotland ;) they finally send a reporter to cover the European Championships and it turns out like this. Dave Edwards and Eve however are the masters at giving the most positive of interviews after crushing defeats although I doubt Dave can spin this one.

According to the BBC Scotland reporter, if Scotland finish 8th, they will face a play-off to make the World Championships.

Seriously needs sorting. Last year was messed up by not sending our Olympic teams so was a one-off, byt the playdowns for the Euros and the Scots Champs need revision.

AFAIK they have group games, semi-finals etc, but just the one-off final. Bizarre, a poor team could squeeze through to the final and play an undefeated team, and in the one game all it needs is an unlucky break, a pick or something and the far better team doesn't go to the majors. Not only that, we end up sending amateurs instead of professionals. Barmy.

in the Scots Champs we need 5 or 6 teams playing each other twice to form a league table. Top of that table goes to the majors - regardless of the next bit - and then have a "final" to see who gets the trophy.

That's if we're not taking into account results on the tour, which show Brewster's rink is clearly the team.

At least there still is a place at the Worlds available - and I've heard a whisper from their facebook page that there's a chance England's men could qualify for the world's. Can't work out how that's possible unless there is a wild-card playoff somewhere? Anyone??

Anyway that's the Scots men out of the way - now it's back to Evie and the English Roses (2 -1 up v Poland). C'mon girls!!

Might be with the winner of the B division.

There is another world championship play-off in prospect for the USA against.... well, I'll give everyone one guess. No cheating!

Scotland and Germany are currently tying in 7th place – and play Italy and Sweden respectively in their last games tonight.

Say they both lose – who gets 7th. Is it based on head to head – Germany beat Scotland – or another basis.

Because if its head to head Scotland look like they will end up 8th – and face a play off (best of 3 games) against the winning team from the B division. Based on form so far that could well be England who are doing a Sweden in one half of the B division and are the only team who have qualfied for the semis so far.

Its actually fortunate the worlds are in Canada this time - as Europe get 8 places rather than 7 plus the automatic host.

Could we face a situation where the English men make the worlds – in place of the Scottish men? Will English points count for Olympic qualification as well as or instead of Scottish ones in future? And will Dave Murdoch change nationality so he can skip the English rink at the worlds?

    Interesting times!

Must win game for Eve today.

We are lucky, this year's WC doesn't count towards Olympic qualifying.

Right now only Scotland can carry Olympic points, they are team GB whatever England do. Although the way it's going after the current cycle things could change, and we migth end up in 2021 (??) having Olympic playdowns with England involved.

But looking at the wider picture, it's not beyond the bounds that we send our second or third-best teams if we carry on with playdowns the way they are. Wonder if GB Olympics could threaten to withold funding if the two BEST rinks aren't sent?

Meanwhile - there's a game going on and a bit of a slip there by Evie in the 5th. Only one point in it and SCO have LS in the 6th, and the way the game is being played there's every chance of a big end winning it one way or t'other.

So we'd like Eve to get 2 here, and Germany to beat Finland, please Curling Gods. Germany have the hammer 4-4 last end.

Risked a speeding ticket to get home in time to see some of the game. I'm just catching the last end, not sure I'm enjoying it so far.
