according to the radio times, they realised the daleks were a little too colorful so have made the red one a much darker red, almost burgundy colour and given them a fleshly eye as well.

Nah. Not really. I couldn't resist the Radio Times wallchart. I remember when having that paintjob was an optional extra. My Escort 1.2 Popular was just the plain pillarbox red.
I had a 950cc fiesta popular (popular meaning basic) didnt even have a passenger mirror, lol
The fleshly eye thing was there from the beginning of the new design - they just appear to have stopped lighting them now...

Passenger mirror? Luxury! Not even the new Daleks have rear views. Hence all the swivelling. I'd be a raving nutjob too if I had to do that much swivelling.
(and there was me thinking "Popular" meant "chick magnet"
It was an organic eye - just lit up. I'd commented on such when they were revealed.
