Why can't I stand Torchwood or Dr.Who?

They seem like badly written fanfic to me, do people take these shows seriously?
I don't know how the actors even keep a straight face, but they have an ARMY of fans. I have watched quite a few episodes and not once have I not been able to guess the entire plot, not cringed ata terrible cheesy line, or felt like it's a quite expensive but actually, terrible quality show.

I'm afraid I have to agree on Doctor Who. I've tried so many times to enjoy it but the writing is simply atrocious and the plots are too difficult and boring to follow.

On the other hand I love Torchwood to bits (although the first series was sketchy) and can't wait for it to come back.

EDIT: Oh god I didn't know this thread would be moved to the Dr Who forum! Please don't slay me, just my opinion!

Ah you won't get slaughtered:). Maybe they thought the fans could explain to you what they liked about it.

What Doctor Who have you watched then. Only New Who (since 2005) or classic who?

Having given your question due consideration and looked at from all possible angles, I'm afraid the only logical conclusion I can reach is that it's because you have no taste and wouldn't know good TV if it bit you.

Either that, or you've somehow only seen episodes written by Russell T Davies.:)

To be fair-he may be a philistine, but he didn't start the thread in the Doctor Who forum, it was moved here. Which was possibly not the most diplomatic decision ever made.

I think the OP stated that the mods moved it to the fan forum:). Maybe we could all stay polite and show that Doctor Who fans can engage in discussion even if someone doesn't like our programme?

I actually enjoyed the film one with Paul Maganne in, watched a few with the one before tennant, and some of the tennant ones... then I gave up because nothing makes any sens other than to the doctor... it's like he reads the script and just solves everything because he knows everything before hand.
It makes no sense from a time, physics, story point of view and the plotholes are enormous.
It reminds me of when I used to play super heros with my friends, "now I have lazer eyes, pow pow pow!" etc.

I pretty much stopped when the last line of a torchwood was something like "what shall we do with this magic clock? lets time each other wanking"

oh and I think to kill characters, you need to EARN that right by way of making the characters deserve it, you know? otherwise its just emotional porn.

Ah come on. Watch the 'right' episodes of Doctor Who, and you could be forgiven for coming to that exact conclusion. And even if they don't like it, so what? Doesn't mean they don't have good taste, just means Doctor Who doesn't appeal.

Wait...... you don't like Russell T Davies?

Because your mind is to tiny to contemplate the awesomenesss of Doctor Who?
Nah, everyone has their own opinion. I think it's very good, you don't. We've evolved minds so we can make our own decisions.

Just leave this forum, before I recruit my angry mob. ;)

So did you watch the episodes one after another or did you dip into different episodes.

Actually I was trying to convince you that you should give it another go, but your criticisms of Doctor Who are not without foundation. I normally overlook the plotholes because I love the madness of it all.

I also love the philosophy in some of the episodes, and fundamental questions about life. However, sometimes I question if I just see philosophy in it, because I want to see it.

I wish crazzyas7 was on the forum, I always feel she can make anyone passionate about Doctor Who:)

I don't know what your last torchwood was. However, if you ever get the opportunity, watch Children of Earth. It's chilling and a good observation of human behaviour and the politcal systems. It's really good.:)

fair enough if you don't like it , the issue of quality is down to taste etc.

but I don't believe you guessed the entire plot to each episode , the plots go off in some very convoluted directions .

Not everyone likes everything. If we all liked the same stuff then we would only need one world-wide TV channel and everyone would be happy. I don't know what you prefer, but I like fantasy and science fiction, true science, true history and some other things, while I don't like soap operas, reality shows, game shows, talk shows, sit-coms, and most prime time dramas.

I'd be willing to bet that your all-time favorite TV show is somewhere on my hate list and I would feel about it the same as you do about Doctor Who and Torchwood. It's no big deal. You watch what you like and I'll watch what I like and we'll just agree to disagree.

There are definitely criticisms to be made of Doctor Who, although my opinion of it is it is getting better year by year. However glaring enormous plotholes is not something I've noticed. If you look for things that don't seem quite right, sure you can find them. But it's also very easy to answer those niggles, without bending over backwards to find a solution.

Good place to look would be the Headscratchers section of Doctor Who on TV Tropes.

You're entitled to your opinion but why do you feel so strongly about Doctor Who and Torchwood that you start a thread dedicated to a negative viewpoint?

I don't like Eastenders so I don't watch it. It plays no part in my life.

Which TV shows do you think are better written than DW or TW? Just so we have an idea of your personal tastes!

Several million people disagree with your opinion. Perhaps you should consider the possibility that it's just you not getting it?
