Capital FM: 95.8 v National

Can anyone please shed some light on difference between 95.8 Capital FM London, and the 'Capital FM UK'? Both stations appear on my DAB radio, and as far as I can tell, they both play the same type of music and same adverts.

Is it possible that Capital FM are launching a new 'National' Capital?

    Nothing They are both the same London presenters. Every Global station which is on TV or DAB is the London presenters.

    I don't know how it would work for local stuff if the FM was non existant.

    The Edinburgh and Glasgow Capital FM's are on DAB but not on TV.

    Yeah that is a separate set up l believe and they will air the DJs breakfast and drive shows. The DJs based in Global London broadcast on the DAB and TV in England?

    Pretty sure this isn't the case. When I lived in the West Mids, it was the local heart 100.7 and Capital 102.2 on DAB.

    In Wales the heart on DAB is the South Wales version too.

    I was Probably more thinking the TV set up l beg your pardon. I guess the local DAB will broadcast in certain areas IE Midlands, North East/ West etc will deliver local breakfast and drivetime then between 10-4pm national live from london and after 7pm, through the night and early breakfast.

    Smooth and Heart have UK DAB plus local. I suppose you just need to retune your DAB radios in the areas. This is why we tend to have drop outs and your radio goes back to FM sometimes as the local area transmitters are both working on digital and FM.

    If you live near another DAB local multiplex this may be the reason why there is two versions one from each multiplex. For example the London multiplex may label Capital 95.8 FM and a multiplex from the neighbouring Home Counties may label Capital as Capital FM UK. If you live in an area where Capital is not FM then you will receive the London version on local DAB the same which is on Digital TV. In areas where Capital is not carried on FM it may be labelled as Capital FM UK.

    During weekday daytimes (10am-4pm) The London and UK feeds can be slightly different. The networked/UK feed sometimes has separate pre-recorded links, for example, and the playlist can be a minute or two behind the London version.

    As far as I know this only happens on Capital, and not Heart/Smooth.

    Why doesn't Capital go national on D1 using Capital Extra's slot at 112kbps and put Capital Extra onto the local muxes ?

    Because just now there's more than one Capital around the country, and only one Capital Xtra (well, technically two, but 96.9 and 107.1 share all programmes, which you also hear on D1).

    It would perhaps have been better to put Capital 95.8 (London) on D1 LBC-style as a national hits station to compete with BBC R1, and relaunch the local/regional stations - most of which used to be Galaxy - and Choice London as Capital Xtra, with rhythmic format, local FM/DAB transmission and local peak programming, but I'd assume the purpose of putting the more mainstream service (in this case Capital) on the FM band is that it could attract a broader audience than the more musically specialised service Galaxy was originally licenced to be...
