A follow up to the 70's big in the 80s thread. The eighties were uncool for most of the nineties but here are some acts which started or had success in the 80s and did well in the 90s.

Madonna
U2
The Stone Roses
The Happy Mondays
Depeche Mode
REM
Nirvana
Celine Dion
Wet Wet Wet
Pet Shop Boys
Erasure
Iron Maiden
New Kids on the Block
Sarah McLachlan
KLF
Bryan Adams
Texas
Pulp
Guns n'roses
Michael Jackson (again)
Kylie Minogue
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Simply Red

I'm sure there are more.

I'd hardly class Nirvana as a 80's band. Yeah they formed in the late 80's and yeah 'Bleach' was released in 1989 (to absolutely no success) - but their sound was one the defining movements of the 90's.

I'll throw in Metallica as a band who cover what the thread is about.

She won Eurovision in 1988 and released her first English album in 1990.

Also forgot to add Janet Jackson and Nine Inch Nails.
