It was just nazi's in the cinema, becuase it was such a small venue only the high command was there. the plan was to blow it up with bombs they had strapped to themselves but the jewish girl burnt it down instead.

' Besides, to hell with the French, This is a German night, a German event, a German celebration. This night is for you, me, the German military, the high command, their family and friends. The only people who should be allowed in the room, are people who will be moved by the exploits on screen.'

And the film was set almost entirely in france not germany

It wasn't all Nazis in the cinema, but certainly a majority of Nazis.

You'll noticed that Aldo Raine whinges about the Nazis, but uses Germans and Nazis interchangeably during his threats, showing a lack of humanity and understanding, something he complains about.

    We're gonna be dropped
    into France, dressed as civilians.
And once we're in enemy territory, as
    a bushwackin, guerrilla army, we're
gonna be doin one thing, and thing
    only, Killin Nazi's.
The Members of the National Socialist
    Party, have conquered Europe through
    murder, torture, intimidation, and
terror. And that's exactly what we're
gonna do to them. Now I don't know
bout y'all? But I sure as hell, didnt
come down from the goddamn Smoky
    mountains, cross five thousand miles
of water, fight my way through half
Sicily, and then jump out of a ****in
    air-o-plane, to teach the Nazi's
lessons in humanity. Nazi ain't got
no humanity. There the foot soldiers
of a Jew hatin, mass murderin manic,
and they need to be destroyed.
That's why any and every son-of-a--bitch
we find wearin a Nazi uniform, there
    gonna die
We will be cruel to the Germans,
and through our cruelty, they will
know who we are. They will find the
evidence of our cruelty, in the
    disembowed, dismembered, and
    disfigured bodies of their brothers
we leave behind us. And the German
will not be able to help themselves
    from imagining the cruelty their
brothers endured at our hands, and
our boot heels, and the edge of our
    knives.
And the Germans, will be sickened by us.
And the Germans, will talk about us.
And the Germans, will fear us.
And when the Germans close their eyes
at night, and their sub conscious
tortures them for the evil they've done,
it will be with thoughts of us,
    that it tortures them with.

Any German in France during that period of time I think its safe to assume that they are a nazi or involved with nazi’s.
You originally said: part of me wonders whether Tarantino got the irony behind it
A load of Americans complaining about the Germans ruthlessly murdering civilians, go to Germany and ruthlessly murder civilians.

    A. they were not all Americans.
    B. they didn’t go to Germany they went to nazi occupied France.
    C. they didn’t murder any French civilians.

The main theme/motive of the film is language and deception.

I haven't enjoyed Will Smith in anything tbh.

Ali was ok and the first Bad Boys was passable but I haven't seen him in anything I'd class as 'excellent'.

How is he an a-list actor:confused:

    pursuit of happiness.

    hes a-list,make no mistake.

He's the only actor in history to have eight consecutive films gross over $100 million in domestic box office sales and also had eight consecutive films open at the number 1 spot.

smith is the most overrated actor ever. i'm more than glad he's not in this most anticipated film. it would be most unwatchable with him in it

But Smith has never directed anything so his ability to influence the final quality of whatever he’s in is limited whereas Tarantino rabidly covets the title auteur and is more personally responsible for the final quality, or massive lack thereof, of his projects than any other director currently working today.

Having said that, Smith is probably the most mis-cast a-lister and rarely convinces me in anything he’s in. MIB aside it’s hard to think of many of his movies that wouldn’t have been vastly improved without him in them.

Seeing as he produces all his own films I'd say he has more input than you credit him for.
