"Human Names" for animals
I have never owned a dog but when I think of cats I always think of the typical names but I have never once thought of calling a cat or a deg etc a name like Trevor or Jason. Why is that? Why do we insist on giving animals sometimes very silly names? My hamster is called Matty, I didn't call him that my parents did and I like it but calling him Matthew? I just couldn't do it!
I often wonder what cats and dogs etc think of their own names... maybe that is why they ignore us when we call them?
Human: tinkles!
Cat: huh?
Human: come here tinkles!
Cat: is he talking to me?
Human: come on! dinner is ready!
Cat: dinner? smashing, but who is tinkles and why is my pet calling his name?

Mind you, my little doggie is called Ellie (Ellie-May) - which is a human name!
Ive had a fish called Jason, a hamster called Flo and my kittens are Lola and Sylvie.
I once met a pug called Colin, made me giggle but it kinda suited him!
Great name for a dog.
The dog I have now, sort of has a human name - he's named after a famous human - The Stig.
Elvis (dog)
We had an Havana called Simon when I was younger so it's the norm in our family.
Madeline - dog
Katie - dog (named by the breeder)
Gwen - dog
Jeremy - cat
Claudia - cat
Betty - cat
Polly - cat
Georgina - hamster
Samantha - donkey
Daphne - donkey
April - donkey
Juile - donkey
Loads more with more recognisable pet-like names. I love giving pets regular names, the more regular the better. A lady at my grandmother's nurding home often feeds a semi-tame squirrel called 'David'
Maude - duck
Helen - chicken
Dogs - Winston, Becky, Max and Kim. Actually think Max is quite a common name for a dog!
Cats - Tigger, Sam, Sasha, Mia, TC (Top Cat) and Chip.
But it would definitely be weird calling a cat Matthew! Or David. Can't quite put my finger on why.
Troy, chester, Maisey moo, Gabby, Peaches, Vera. I also had cats called simon and kay
And on a more personal level, I have a fish called Trevor... He just looked like one.
Mind you, Peter turned out to be a girl and she laid dozens of eggs in the months before she died, poor thing.
My cat was called Muffin.
Son' hamster was Homer after Homer Simpson
I also have a chocolate Labrador called Maddie, when she had previous owners she was called 'Simba' and 'Nana' but I think 'Maddie' suits her the most.
We once had a cat at work called Gary. Who in their right mind calls a cat Gary???
A couple that I know quite well have a cat called Gary, though they named him Gary because they loved Gary the Snail on Spongebob Squarepants who meows at Spongebob
That was my OH's suggestion for our female cat  (I wanted to go with 'Yoda' )
We settled on Amber in the end
We also had Whilba, Matthew, John, Katherine, Penny and Shane all cats.
And we have Duncan and Mollie our two dogs now.
Can't imagine giving them anything but human names tbh I would feel odd calling blackie or spot or something non human.
