@Ed_Miliband The Daily Mail has agreed to publish a reply by me on Tuesday to their piece about my father headlined "Man Who Hated Britain". (1/2)

@Ed_Miliband My dad loved Britain, he served in the Royal Navy and I am not prepared to allow his good name to be denigrated in this way. (2/2)

Doesn't matter if you agree with Ed or not, to smear his dad like that wasn't on.

Why not ? Its only a smear if its untrue, it wasn't

And as Labour are the party of smear and spin it comes across as totally sanctimonious

It stinks of desperation to use his dead dad, its probably because they think he has a chance of winning in 2015, but lets not let that get by you now. ;)

Hey Stalin believed in some rank ideas and he's dead. Are we not allowed to examine his actions and beliefs in life?

Of course, but when Ralph Miliband served in the Royal Navy and referring to him as 'The Man Who Hated Britain' is way over the top, so try and come to an accurate conclusion without contradicting yourself.

    LOL

You do recall the parties people were having on here when Thatcher died don't you? Still I guess that was OK because she was not one of your tribe

Oh and you can not slander the dead so they are fair game, even more so when what is being said about them is true

As pointed out, only if it isn't true. Milly's dad wanted Britain to lose the war. I mean, I think that much kinda justifies the headline.

She wasn't one of my tribe at all, my parents nearly became homeless because of her policies, so I have a legitimate reason to hate her, sure there are a few band wagoners though.

Didn't the Daily Mail support the Nazi's no?

Philby , Burgess and MacLean didn't want the ALLIES to lose the war but were quite happy to sell Britain out after it

Ralph Milliband could have hated the Nazis more than the English

Is this really a smart move on Ed's part? He already has a reputation as the guy who stabbed his brother in the back. Does he really want to shine a light on his father's past regardless if it's true or not? At the moment it's yesterdays news. If he starts a spat with the mail, it becomes front page stuff for the next week or two.

and people change their opinions over a period of time when they are alive. So when Miliband senior arrived here in 1940 he may have believed what he wrote in his diary at that time but who is to say his opinion didn't change between then and when he died in 1994.

So the 17yr old Ralph Miliband, fresh from running away from the Nazis, wanted someone who would have put him into a gas chamber to win WW2.

    Sounds pretty unlikely to me.

The DM didn't produce any evidence it was true.

The insinuation was that Britain would have benefited from losing the war. Not from who we'd have lost to. But from the humbling effect of being defeated.

Let's be honest the daily mail is read by rather gullible people to start with, whatever they print is 99% garbage and the other 1% is adverts.

    Who said they had ?

As you seem to be an expert on this you will know nothing in that article is new, a lot more has been written about RM in the past and none too complimentary

I can't see what the issue is. The press, Labour, and internet people go on about their opponents' Eton childhoods often enough. Either it's a fair target, or it isn't. It can't be both.

Well, seeing that there's no evidence that he 'hated Britain' I'd say that was pretty much a smear.
