    same happened to me years ago, was a ventian blind fitter dropped screwdriver on my conservatory tiles.

    i pointed it out to him and he said oh sorry that was it .

    He should have public liability insurance which covers this sort of thing.

    Did he damage his part, if he did he could say your tile damaged his part.

    Say "Would you like me to carry out the repair to the damage you did and bill you, or are you going to repair it?"

    Or when he hands you the bill for the work he did, add a subtraction line to it for the amount you think it would cost you to have the tile replaced.

    It's fair, above board and legal to expect him to pay for damage he caused.

    you might have some spare tiles - in which case, most plumbers would be capable of replacing the tile, I should think.

    if not, you may struggle to replace the tile. In cases like this, you might end up needing the whole floor replacing.

    Don't pay him until it's fixed.
