HD-PVR minimum spec for laptop
I'd like to use the Hauppage HD-PVR
http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/prod...ata_hdpvr.html with my Advent 5302 http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/advent/laptop/5302.htm The laptop only has 128mb graphic memory (some sort of ingegrated memory chipset ??) The HD-PVR requires minimum 256mb graphic memory. How critical is this ? Before I splash out over £150 for the PVR I'd like to know if it will actually work OK on my machine...I don't really want to buy a new laptop just for this. I've done a bit of research and it appears that it's not possible to upgrade the graphic memory on this machine...I stand to be corrected on this though. Thanks guys |

Ask also direct in Hauppage's forums.
I find them exceptionally honest and helpful. http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/index.php |

Yes, already posted similar question there too, but there appears to be hardly any users of that forum.....

I went thru' a phase of posting in this one for my TV Tuner Card.
http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/forumdisplay.php?f=86 'Mr X' is one of the moderators, but there are others and I think they work for Hauppage UK. Get comments like "Yes, this is being sorted out" or "it will be in next release" Post in the wrong forum, and if it is not their product line, ask for contact details for the right duty team. Maybe because it is a new product it is slow. |

Urgh.
HD-PVR functionality on a laptop? Really? That kind of job is far better suited to a tower PC which gives better bang for your buck and has far superior cooling. |

I don't think disk will be a problem even with a 5400rpm drive. CPU wise, minimum is a dual core, so I would suggest T6xxx or i3.
However you do realise that you need an external source for that device. Either sat, cable or freeview that has component output ? |
