That is true but the true meaning of sexual intercourse is putting together a penis inside a vagina

That is just simply wrong that has never been the definition. Do you think alternative sexual practices didn't come into being till the 21st century?

What I am saying is that by definition even today two people of the same gender cant have sex, as I mentioned before in condom adverts you can't mention sex because by definition if you wear a condom the way it is intended it is impossible to have sex but you can have "safe sex".

By definition same sex partners can't have sex but they can have oral sex or anal sex which isn't by definition sex

Doesn't that rather depend on the definition of 'sex' that you're using. The word sex itself has no legal definition that I'm aware of in this country. You seem to be suggesting that sex is a synonym for sexual intercourse which is indeed legally defined as something that only heterosexual couples can engage in. However, the word sex can also be taken to be a generic term for sexual activity and to have sex can mean to engage in any form of sexual activity. The WHO in 2002 defined sex in that way.

There is no definitive rule about what sex is or who can have sex. Even sexual intercourse in the vernacular can be taken to include oral and anal sex.

I'd be interested to read the ASA's reasonings as to why the word sex cannot be used in condom adverts. Can you provide a link?

Sex means sexual intercourse as penis in vagina, if you want to refer to different types of sex like sex with condoms it is called "safe sex".

I don't think the ASA have specific sex rules however it comes under the definition rules. I have worked with people who have produced adverts and when discussing how harsh the ASA's rules are it came up in conversation that the producer had an advert rejected because it mentioned wearing a condom during sex.

why not just say 'right gays can get married' and let that be that and to hell with what anyone else thinks? as it really doesnt actually affect anyone, other than the people who want to marry someone of the same sex...

i cant understand for the life of me the time wasting and the endless debates...?
its going to happen one day anyway
the only reason Torys keep going on about gay marriage which most ppl dont care about anyway is because it takes the focus off all there other policies like the mess they are making of the economy ect

Sex as a word does not specifically mean sexual intercourse in all circumstances. It is a generic term for any type of sexual act as the WHO pointed out in their report back in 2002. In fact apart from in a dictionary (where the word sex means a variety of different things) there is no specific definition of what sex means in law.

As mentioned before it can mean different things if you put words with it, the word "sex" on it's own refers to sexual intercourse as in penis in vagina putting other words with it like "safe sex" or "oral sex" can mean different things

Given how long this thread has dragged on for, can you remind us what the relevance of this discussion actually is?

I think it was something like someone that was anti religion claimed that gay marriage was a religious issue and I mentioned that by definition it isn't and they were just against it because they thought it was a religious topic.
